Realschule head satisfied: Registration procedure without "live contact" worked well

Contrary to what is usual, registration for the future fifth grades at secondary schools took place this year. Corona was to blame. Everything went well at the secondary schools in Gmund and Holzkirchen.

Gmund / Holzkirchen - Because of the Corona crisis, the parents and their offspring were not allowed to appear in person for registration in schools this year - however, the procedure was easy to handle, as shown by a demand from two secondary schools in the district of Miesbach, which is already the first Have an overview of the numbers of future fifth graders.

Joachim Fischer is satisfied: "We will have four new classes," says the headmaster of the Oberland Realschule Holzkirchen. "That is exactly what we want." Because his school did not accept children from the Munich district this year, the 88 fixed registrations and 24 trial students are fewer than the 140 newcomers who came to Holzkirchen last year. Accordingly, there will be a fifth class less. And that is also urgently needed, says Fischer. "We have no more space in the house. We have to reduce. "

Because enrollment was only possible online and by post this year, Fischer still expects a few letters that will only arrive in the next few days. But the numbers will not change much. Overall, Corona had not negatively affected the process. "Live contact is always something different," says Fischer. With online videos, the junior high school made up for the disadvantage.

The secondary school in Gmund, which is also known to be plagued by space constraints, is not breaking the previous year's record mark for registrations this year. By Friday, 123 families had registered a child for fifth grade. "That is a little bit above the average of the past five years," says Rector Tobias Schreiner.

Because of Corona there was no personal contact this year, the forms were only sent or thrown in by mail. "It worked out quite well," reports Schreiner, who, like his Holzkirchner colleague, expects that there will be a few stragglers due to the procedure. He estimates that the number of new fifth graders will level off at around 100 after trial lessons and grades at middle schools. That would be four medium-sized classes. The junior high school on Lake Tegernsee, which will soon have an extension, was actually designed for triple movement.

The headmaster is particularly pleased that more than half of the enrolled pupils could have gone to high school due to the grade point average in the transfer certificate. Because these pupils and their families had deliberately chosen the educational offer of the Gmunder Realschule.
