San Francisco - A major fire broke out in a port facility in San Francisco , California. The fire broke out on Saturday morning (local time) for a hitherto unknown cause in a warehouse on the historic quay Pier 45, as the fire brigade announced. Significant property damage occurred. At times, around 150 firefighters were deployed. A fireman was injured in the fire fighting, no one else was injured, it said. Images showed a column of smoke rising from the fire and visible from afar.

Pier 45 includes the US military ship Jeremiah O'Brien from the Second World War, which was not damaged by the fire. Nearby is also the popular Pier 39, which is popular with tourists, and is also home to numerous sea lions. The quays are part of the Fisherman's Wharf, which is popular with holidaymakers and locals for its numerous attractions, restaurants and shops.
