Munich - Almost every day, the federal states adopt new easing measures - after weeks of restrictions, more and more leisure activities are allowed again. In the past, it has repeatedly become clear that many countries cook their own soup when it comes to loosening. This may be understandable in view of the different numbers of infections *, but at the same time it also causes great confusion. What is the status in the respective federal states? An overview including the current infection numbers.

The loosening is usually carried out under conditions such as distance and hygiene regulations. In addition, the nationwide mask requirement in trade and local transport continues to apply.

Corona rules in Baden-Württemberg 

  • Gastronomy:  Dining rooms and holiday apartments are allowed to reopen as long as self-sufficiency is possible. Bars must remain closed. Hotels may open from May 29th. 
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks:  When outdoor pools are allowed to open is not yet foreseeable. Amusement park fans can look forward to May 29th. The stay outside is also permitted with members of another household.
  • Contact provisions:  Meetings with siblings and their families, but also with members of another household are possible in private rooms. 
  • Meetings:  Meetings are allowed - with requirements to ensure protection against infection - for example at intervals or maximum number of participants.
  • Schools and day-care centers: In mid-June, all pupils should at least temporarily receive face-to-face classes again. So far, no more than 50 percent of the children who normally visit the facility can be cared for there at the daycare centers.

Corona rules in Bavaria 

  • Gastronomy:  Outside areas of restaurants are allowed to open, interiors from May 25th. There is still no perspective for bars and bars that are geared towards serving drinks. Hotels and apartments may reopen from May 30th. 
  •  Outdoor swimming pools and amusement parks: Outdoor swimming pools should be allowed to open again from June 8th. Prime Minister Markus Söder announced this in his speech at the CSU Internet Party Conference. Amusement parks are allowed to open from May 30th. 
  • Contact provisions:  Several members of two households can meet both in private and in public spaces. Demonstrations should be decided on a case-by-case basis. 
  • Meetings:  Meeting places must have enough space for the minimum distance. 
  • Schools and day-care centers: some cohorts are back at schools, only after the Pentecost holidays in mid-June should all pupils go to school at least on a daily basis. Then the children should also be allowed to go back to kindergartens, which will have to go to school in the 2021/22 school year.

Corona rules in Berlin 

  • Gastronomy:  Dining in restaurants is possible. Pure taverns, including bars, must remain closed. Hotels and apartments can open from May 25th
  •  Open air pools and amusement parks: Open air pools can open from May 25th, there are no larger amusement parks in the capital.
  • Contact provisions: Several members of two households can meet both in private and in public spaces.
  • Meetings:  Meetings in closed rooms with up to 50 participants are allowed. From May 25, up to 100 people can take part in outdoor gatherings, so far there are 50.
  • School and day-care centers: Every day-care child should receive childcare again by summer. By the end of May, all students with fewer hours should go to school.

Corona rules in Brandenburg 

  • Gastronomy:  Restaurants can open, bars remain closed. Apartments can accommodate guests, hotels from May 25th.
  •  Outdoor pools and amusement parks: Only small amusement parks with outdoor activities are open with restrictions. Outdoor pools can open from May 28th.
  • Contact regulations:  Contacts from two households are allowed - in public and private areas.
  • Meetings:  Meetings with up to 50 people are allowed with a special permit.
  • School and day-care centers: All schoolchildren are able to attend school and take part in face-to-face classes at least on a daily or weekly basis before the summer holidays. A limited regular operation is to start at daycare centers.

Corona rules in Bremen 

  • Gastronomy:  Visits to restaurants and pubs are possible. There is a ban on counters, seating and service. Bars remain closed. For this, hotels and apartments are allowed to open.
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks:  The first outdoor pools can open from June 1st, from June 15th outdoor pools should generally be opened upon presentation of a hygiene concept. There is no leisure park in the Hanseatic city.
  • Contact regulations:  Several relatives from two households can meet in the public space.
  • Meetings:  Demonstrations can be officially prohibited, restricted or imposed to protect against infection.
  • School and day-care centers:  All school classes are gradually brought back. From June 1st, all preschool children will return to daycare centers.

Corona rules in Hamburg 

  • Gastronomy:  Restaurants are open, an opening of bars is still being examined. A trend is not yet apparent. Hotels and holiday apartments are also allowed to open their gates again in the Hanseatic city.
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks:  outdoor pools are still closed, a possible opening soon is being discussed. There are no amusement parks in Hamburg either.
  • Contact regulations:  Hamburg is loose when it comes to distance: Up to ten members of two households can meet again without having to keep a minimum distance of 1.50 meters.
  • Meetings: Larger meetings are prohibited, exceptions can be approved in the open air.
  • Schools and day-care centers: From May 25th, all pupils should receive lessons at school once a week. Daycare centers go into regular operation step by step.

Corona rules in Hessen

  • Gastronomy:  Restaurants and bars are open, only one guest is allowed per five square meters of space. Hotels and apartments are allowed to receive guests.
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks:  For outdoor pools, the time for reopening is still unclear. Amusement parks can open again.
  • Contact provisions:  Relatives of two households may again travel together in public spaces.
  • Meetings: In  principle, events with up to 100 people no longer have to be approved if there is a hygiene and distance concept, they are basically allowed.
  • Schools and day-care centers: Day-care centers are to gradually switch to normal operation as of June 2. Classes in schools have gradually started again.

Corona rules in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

  • Gastronomy:  Restaurants are open. Bars still have to be closed. In the state that is least affected by Covid-19, hotels and holiday apartments are open per se, but only for residents of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. For all others, entry is prohibited until May 25.
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks: Outdoor pools can reopen from May 25th. Amusement parks are closed.
  • Contact provisions:  Also in Meck-Pomm, several members of two households can meet in public and private spaces.
  • Meetings:  Outdoor events with up to 150 participants are allowed.
  • Schools and daycare centers: The pupils are already returning to schools step by step. On May 25, daycare centers are to be open to all children again.

Corona rules in Lower Saxony 

  • Gastronomy: Bars remain tight until further notice, while restaurants are allowed to open. Vacation homes may be operated, hotels should follow from May 25th with a maximum occupancy of 60 percent.
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks:  Outdoor pools could reopen from May 25, the same applies to amusement parks - the state's new Corona regulation, which was presented on Friday (May 22), clarifies this.
  • Contact provisions:  Relatives of two households may meet in public.
  • Meetings:  For demonstrations and gatherings in the open air, the authorities can grant exemptions, they are basically possible.
  • Schools and day-care centers: Emergency care in the day-care centers is gradually being expanded; the return to normal operation is planned for August 1. Pupils are returning little by little, from June 15th all classes have classes in schools again.

Corona rules in North Rhine-Westphalia 

  • Gastronomy:  The same procedure as in Lower Saxony, although bars can also open under certain conditions. Decisions are made locally. Hotels and apartments, on the other hand, can open permanently.
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks:  outdoor pools are allowed to open, the minimum distance also applies in the swimming pools. Amusement parks can also receive visitors.
  • Contact regulations:  Members from two families may meet in public. NRW also overturned relatively early that the ban on visiting old people's homes and nursing homes.
  • Meetings:  Demonstrations are generally allowed - provided the distance rules and a maximum number of participants are observed, calculated on the total area.
  • Schools and day-care centers: day-care center children and pupils return gradually. From the end of May, all pupils should receive face-to-face lessons on a daily basis, and from June 8, there should be "restricted regular operation" for all daycare children.

Corona rules in Rhineland-Palatinate 

  • Gastronomy:  restaurants and bars are allowed to open. However, counter areas must remain closed. Hotels can open to tourists again, holiday apartments can be rented out again.
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks:  outdoor pools are supposed to be open on May 27, amusement parks on June 10.
  • Contact provisions:  Relatives from up to two households can meet in the public space
  • Meetings:  Meetings can be permitted in individual cases subject to conditions - but only in the open air.
  • Schools and day-care centers: Classes have started again gradually, all pupils should go to school again by mid-June. The daycare centers should open to everyone from June 2, albeit with restrictions.

Corona rules in Saarland 

  • Gastronomy:  Visits to restaurants are possible. Bars can also open, but in Saarland too, dining is only at tables, and a stay at the counter is not permitted. To keep tourism alive, hotels and holiday homes are open again.
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks:  It is unclear, however, when outdoor pools and amusement parks can open again.
  • Contact provisions:  Relatives from up to two households can meet inside and outside.
  • Meetings: Meetings within the meaning of the Assembly Act under the open sky are again permitted under special conditions if the hygiene and distance regulations can be observed.
  • Schools and day-care centers: In day-care centers and schools, there should be "regular operation as possible" by the summer holidays at the latest.

Corona rules in Saxony

  • Gastronomy: Restaurants and bars are allowed to open, as are hotels and holiday homes.
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks: They are allowed to open if they have an approved hygiene concept.
  • Contact provisions:  In this point Saxony is oriented to many other countries. Two households can meet.
  • Meetings: Rallies are no longer limited to a certain number of participants.
  • Schools and day-care centers: Saxony's day-care centers and primary schools can open to all children in restricted regular operation. Pupils in secondary schools should at least partially be taught at schools again.

  • Gastronomy: Restaurants have been allowed to reopen since Friday (May 22). Bars may welcome guests again from May 28th. Apartments can open, hotels should follow - first for guests from their own country - on Friday (May 22). From May 28th holidays for tourists from all over Germany should be possible.
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks:  Outdoor pools and amusement parks can reopen from May 28th.
  • Contact provisions:  Prime Minister Reiner Haseloff (CDU) hurried ahead: Meetings of up to five people are permitted in Saxony-Anhalt, even if they do not live together in one household. From May 28th up to 20 guests can be invited to private celebrations.
  • Meetings: Rallies are no longer limited to a certain number of participants. Demonstrations are possible if the assembly authority allows them together with the health department. There is no flat-rate ceiling for participants.
  • Schools and day-care centers: From June 2, day-care centers and schools are expected to return to regular operation.

Corona rules in Schleswig-Holstein

  • Gastronomy:  Restaurants and bars can open.
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks:  On the other hand, they will remain closed until further notice.
  • Contact provisions:  Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) is also oriented to other federal states when it comes to contact provisions. Several members of two households can meet in both private and public spaces
  • Meetings:  Meetings are generally prohibited, but exceptions are possible.
  • Schools and daycare centers: From May 25th, the school should start again for other age groups. This applies to grades 1 to 3 at primary schools and grades 8, 9 and 10 at community schools and high schools. From June 1st, day care will be restricted in the daycare centers.

Corona rules in Thuringia 

  • Gastronomy:  Restaurants and bars are also allowed to open here, as are hotels and holiday apartments.
  • Outdoor pools and amusement parks:  Outdoor pools can open from June 1st, the circles decide on leisure parks on their own.
  • Contact provisions:  Outside and inside, members of two households can meet.
  • Meetings:  Demonstrations without restrictions on the number of participants are possible.
  • Schools and day-care centers: The municipalities were able to decide for themselves whether they would like to offer limited regular operation in the kindergartens. This should start in all daycare centers by June 15 at the latest. In the schools, all pupils should be able to take face-to-face classes again after Pentecost.
  • As it became known on May 23, Thuringia could soon end the corona restrictions.
