Are countries in China on the way to another crisis? Senior national security adviser to President Donald Trump said Sunday that the administration would consider imposing sanctions on Beijing if it continues legislation aimed at "taking control of Hong Kong."

Adviser Robert O'Brien said in an interview with US NBC that "with the recent national security laws, China seems to be seeking to take over Hong Kong. ".

O'Brien referred to Chinese legislation that would allow Chinese police and Chinese courts greater authority in Hong Kong's autonomous system and allow judges of terrorism to be judged in Chinese courts rather than in God and the autonomy that holds parliamentary rule.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced today that the legislation will pass as close to the approval of the National People's Congress, the Chinese parliament which is a rubber stamp for government decisions. "We must pass these laws without delay," Foreign Minister Yi said.

The protesters returned to the streets

A crowd of thousands dressed in masks returned to the protest that began early last year against government action. Armed police reportedly used means to disperse demonstrations such as tear gas and water hoses to disperse the masses.

The protest is against the plan coming from Beijing to contain the Chinese government's laws on the city that took hundreds of thousands of people to the streets last year. As then, even today, protesters shouted "Independence for Hong Kong is the only way."

Today's protest, the first since the request was filed last Thursday, is another challenge facing Chinese President Xi Jinping in parallel with the authorities' coping with the global pressure exerted on them by the outbreak of the Corona virus.

The protest march that took place today is the biggest one since the closure of the city and organizers began calling for more people to take to the streets and demonstrate. At the same time police forces were trying to enforce the mass gathering.
