Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov confirmed that Washington's accusations of his country using the open skies treaty to direct its weapons toward American sites are "ridiculous."
Ryabkov said in an interview with the Russian Channel One last night that the use of unilateral flights over certain areas to target weapons under the control devices operating in a way that excludes any manipulation or increasing the clarity of the image and in the presence of representatives of the country subject to photographing from the plane is a funny thing, describing the American explanations for Washington's exit from the treaty by “ Mysterious and illogical. ”
Ryabkov recalled that US aircraft had been flying over Russian soil for many years under the said treaty.
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister announced yesterday that Russia is studying various options to respond to the US withdrawal from the "open skies" treaty.
The administration of US President Donald Trump continues to shirk its international obligations and the tendency to launch a new arms race, as US officials announced last Thursday their country’s intention to withdraw from the open skies agreement after it withdrew in February last year from the medium and short-range missile treaty signed with Russia in 1987.
