Uprising in Austria: head of state breaks important corona rule - "I chatted"

Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen disregarded the corona restrictions and was caught doing so, followed by a banal explanation later.

Because Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and his wife Doris Schmidauer were caught by the police after the Corona * curfew in a pub in Vienna . Van der Bellen confirmed the incident to the Kronen Zeitung on Sunday and also apologized on his own social media channels. "I am truly sorry. It was a mistake, ”he said. In a tweet, the 76-year-old added that he would compensate the host for any damage.

Van der Bellen's explanation was comparatively banal . He had " chatted and unfortunately missed the time," said the former Green leader. The police also confirmed that the Federal President was found in a guest garden during a check in downtown Vienna. According to the Kronen Zeitung , Van der Bellen and his wife still had drinks on the table when the bar was checked around 0:00 p.m.

In Austria, restaurants, pubs and bars are currently only allowed to open until 11 p.m. due to the corona pandemic * . The incident could therefore have expensive consequences for the landlord. The Covid-19 Measures Act provides for the operation after 23 clock sentences of up to 30,000 euros before. Officially, the restaurant was already closed.
