Pedophile teacher in Isère: justice rejects additional information requested by a victim

The justice rejected on Tuesday the additional information requested by a victim of a teacher of Isère today deceased who was prosecuted for suspected sexual abuse and rape on fifty children between 2003 and 2014, announced Wednesday Hervé Gerbi, his lawyer.

In its judgment, the investigating chamber of the Grenoble Court of Appeal considered that the additional information was "not directly related to the case", explains the Grenoble lawyer.

In March 2019, Mr. Gerbi had seized the Isère jurisdiction to remove "uncertainties" on technical operations, deemed "incomplete", carried out on the computer equipment of Romain Farina, the teacher in question, who had committed suicide in 2016 in his cell.

At the same time, he had also seized the Grenoble public prosecutor's office for “failures” following the teacher's conviction in 2008 for possession of child pornography images, considering that this should have been mentioned by the public prosecutor's office in Bourgoin-Jallieu. on the sex offender index so that the Ministry of Education is informed.

Following this second complaint, the Bourgoin-Jallieu parquet had been divested in favor of that of Valence, which had classified it without action in December 2019.

"New judicial stage"

The lawyer considers that the decision of the investigating chamber of the Grenoble Court of Appeal opens a “new judicial stage” for the civil party, who, according to him, faces a “judicial institution [disinterested] in breaches serious of his own administration and that of National Education ”.

"It seems completely unthinkable that we do not understand how we could have let this man continue his career with a report [in 2001] and a criminal conviction. These sexual facts should have been reported, "he said.

He intends to file a new complaint against X with constitution of civil party for "involuntary injuries" before the dean of the magistrates of Valence.

This complaint will again target the alleged breaches at the Bourgoin-Jallieu public prosecutor's office and at the Ministry of Education.

Romain Farina is said to have sexually abused and raped dozens of children for several years during "taste workshops" which he organized in his class, during his assignments in schools in Vénissieux (Rhône), Les Avenières, Saint -Clair-de-la-Tour then Villefontaine in Isère.

He was indicted and imprisoned in March 2015 before committing suicide in his cell a year later. Justice had made a dismissal order because of the extinction of the public action.

In June 2019, seven other families of schoolteacher victims had already lodged a complaint against National Education for "failure to assist people in danger and endangering the lives of others".
