Russia's permanent delegate to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, has called on the European Union to abandon its sanctions policy that hinders some countries from fighting Corona virus.
The news agency Novosti Nebenzia as saying during the Security Council meeting of the International Day " Unfortunately , we see the application of the European Union many restrictions and coercion mechanisms , " noting that " the application of such measures undermine the socio - economic situation in the developing countries affected by the epidemic."
"We call on the European Union to review its sanctions policies, reach out to the populations of the countries under discussion and refrain from punitive and compulsory measures applied outside the framework of the UN Security Council," Nipenzia said.
An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants said in a statement to Sana today that the European Union’s decision to renew the coercive measures imposed on Syria reveals the falsehood of the positions and statements of its officials and exposes the hypocrisy that has become an essential feature of European policies, indicating that these sanctions are a flagrant violation of the most basic human rights and international humanitarian law and a crime against humanity by all mean of the word.
