An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck Gifu Prefecture, central Japan today, and there were no reports of casualties or damage.
"The epicenter of the tremor was at 36.3 degrees north of latitude and 137.6 degrees east of longitude and at a depth of ten kilometers," the official Xinhua news agency quoted the Japan Meteorological Agency as saying.
No tsunami warnings were issued.
