The Eng is a popular destination. But if you have to go there, you have to cross the border into Austria. Is that currently allowed?

Hinterriß / Vorderriß - Are Bavaria allowed to go into the Narrow Mountains for hiking? This is not an easy question, after all, border crossings to Austria are still only possible for a valid reason and in some cases even only with a medical certificate including a negative corona test. One of the good reasons is to visit his life partner. Commuters are also allowed to cross the border.

Exceptions for the Eng and other enclaves

Going for a hike or just taking a little trip to Tyrol - that's not possible. Actually. Because different rules apply to the border crossing Vorderriß / Hinterriß, as a spokesman for the Tyrolean State Police Directorate confirms after some back and forth and after consulting the Federal Ministry of Health in Vienna. “The Federal Regulation is not applicable to the Hinterriß area. Entry for tourist purposes is permitted. ”According to the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce, the same regulation also applies to the other two enclaves, Kleinwalsertal and Jungholz. "Entry into these areas is also possible without any problems," said the Chamber of Commerce.

The mountaineer bus will not be running again until June 15th

That means that nothing stands in the way of an excursion by German citizens into the Eng. The toll road is open. The German federal police also confirm that there are no problems for German citizens when they return to Bavaria.

According to the RVO, however, the mountaineer bus into the Eng will only be available from June 15th.
