Day care center: space problem solved, all children stay in the building

Some variants were checked. Now it is clear: All children will find space in the St. Martin daycare center in the new kindergarten year. A smaller conversion is necessary for this. The controversial gym variant is off the table.

Bad Kohlgrub - It was less than a year ago that the St. Martin daycare center in Bad Kohlgrub was inaugurated. Freshly renovated and expanded. The facility is already reaching its limits. The registrations exceed the spatial capacities. Those responsible tortured their heads where they could put the new, third group. Now there is a solution.

There are currently 21 registrations for 2020/21, with two more children moving up at the end of the year. The eight free places are occupied by crib children. Nobody had the big need in mind when planning the daycare started in 2017. The birth numbers from 2014, 2015 and 2016 served as the basis. "They were all within the framework", justifies Franz Degele (Free Voter). 20 to 25 boys and girls were born each. The modernization concept was based on this. But the exceptional year of 2017 followed. The mayor calls it an outlier. 43 births. "If you suddenly have 20 more children, it no longer works."

Moving the children to the gym: Major construction work would be necessary

Several solution variants were examined. Two remained. Number one: The third group should move to the old gymnasium of the elementary and middle school for one year. The blessing from the district office that granted the operating license would have been given. However, the local council had already expressed concerns about outsourcing the little ones in the past. According to on-site appointments, one thing is certain: the move requires a major structural intervention. New soundproof ceilings would be necessary, among other things.

With the parents' advisory council and Caritas, the sponsor of the facility, the community ultimately decided on the second, cheaper option. The group stays in the day care center - combined with a minor modification. A breakthrough between the workshop and the warehouse is planned. "The effort is limited," emphasizes Degele. Instead of a lintel, a steel beam has to be installed and a piece of floor added - done.

Remodeling of the day care center: No cost forecast yet

The mayor is reluctant to make predictions about the costs. "We don't yet know what the steel girder looks like." The community is waiting for the information from the commissioned engineering office. At the end of July, the work should go on stage. They last a maximum of two weeks, Degele says. The new kindergarten year does not start until September 1st - with a third group in-house.
