Civil defense personnel, the fire brigade and the Agricultural Directorate in Homs Governorate put out a major fire that broke out today on the Homs-Palmyra road near the village of Al-Sayyid.
Brigadier-General Ghayath Aqil, Director of Civil Defense in Homs, said in a statement to SANA correspondent that the fire spread over an area of 100 dunums of forest trees, herbs and thorns.
Akil pointed out that strong winds caused the fire to extend to large areas.
The civil defense elements, in cooperation with the fire brigade and the Directorate of Agriculture in Homs, were able yesterday to extinguish two fires, the first in the field of wheat and olive trees in the Eastern Bawaida in the Qusair region, and the second that erupted in agricultural land that includes cypress trees, crops and herbs in the end of the Muhajireen neighborhood.
