Five hundred National Guard soldiers were on the job Friday morning to restore calm in the American city of Minneapolis, after a third night of violence following the death of a black man during his arrest by the police, according to a military communique.

These men from the Minnesota State National Guard " will offer support to the civil authorities, as long as they are asked, to ensure the safety of people and property, " the text said.
