(CNN Spanish) - Ricky Martin surprised his millions of followers this Thursday with the release of “Pause”, a six-track EP in which he has captured his most vulnerable part and his feelings during this quarantine.

"There are my fears, my insecurities, my affection, my love, my panic ... I went through this quarantine because it was honestly quite strong at the beginning," Martin said through an intimate Zoom session in which CNN was able to participate.

As it has happened with other artists during the coronavirus crisis, Martin had to rethink an entire album that was already made and release something more in keeping with the global sentiment that the world is experiencing today.

“I had a record practically done. The album was called 'Movimiento' and my tour, you know, is called 'Movimiento'. Obviously we have to change the dynamics, the concept, and what I did was that I separated the songs, ”says the singer.

'Pausa' has themes at halftime, with slower and more reflective rhythms. The exception is 'Cantalo', along with Residente and Bad Bunny, which was unveiled in November 2019 during the twentieth installment of the Latin Grammy.

"I think it was even a little reckless for me, the way I see him tell [people] come on, let's go to the party. I think it is a time when the world is asking us - the cosmos, God, as you want to see it - is asking us to pause and go home. So I see it, I am an artist and this is my defense mechanism, "said Martin.

Five of the six themes have collaborations. The production opens with 'Simple' in which Martin collaborates with Sting who sings in Spanish.

“Within this madness, this anxiety that I was living, I raised this with Sting. I tell him: 'I know we are going through - because he was the same - I know we are going through this but something good has to come out of this, it has to be music, ”says Martin.

The singer admitted that he left his comfort zone by calling Sting. "I have a hard time asking, please ask us to do something."

Memory

"I Remember" is the single that this production presents in which the Grammy Award winner collaborates with the Mexican composer Carla Morrison, with whom he says he is obsessed.

“I live obsessed with the way she tells her stories. It's like every song on it has something of mine. A phrase that she writes, like she narrates and describes a thousand things that I have lived through, in all her songs, "confessed the interpreter.

The call came as a surprise to Morrison, who told CNN Pop Zone that he screamed with excitement.

"When they told me I screamed with excitement because I was super excited that Ricky was looking for me. Then everything about the pandemic happened, so it's like everything stopped for a long time and I didn't know anything anymore. I thought, 'Hey, it may have already been canceled. Well, no way. This is crazy. The coronavirus thing is very strong, '”Morrison said.

A few weeks later the singer-songwriter received a voice note on WhatsApp.

“A month later he sent me a voice message on WhatsApp. Imagine listening to Ricky on your cell phone! He told me he was making a collaborations album and that he would love to include me and see what we could do together. And well, a literal dream. I think I still think that I have not awakened from that dream, "he confessed.

"They were very cute, very pure reactions," says Martin.

The Puerto Rican told CNN that this song was one of the things that most moved him about the album since it was born out of the sadness he was going through.

“It is very, very special, because 'I remember' really comes from the sadness I was going through. Carlita was not in the best moment either. This kind of aroused this desire to write again, "says Martin.

“Obviously, the pandemic and quarantine have been difficult, for whom it is not. I was ... I think more than anything in a lot of uncertainty. And when Ricky looks for me it was like a gift of life because he was super-encouraging. It made me feel very special, very happy, it gave me purpose, it gave me a goal and I don't know, it completely raised my spirits… well, very fast, ”Morrison tells CNN.

"It was an extremely refreshing three weeks in a rather uncomfortable and unusual situation that makes everything turn into this love fest, " adds Martin.

In the production he also collaborates with Diego El Cigala for the song "Quiéreme" and with Pedro Capó for "Cae de Una". The Puerto Rican was in charge of the production along with Julio Reyes Copello, Montana, Raul Refree, Residente and Alejandro Jiménez.

The cover and visual concept of the production was provided by her husband, artist Jwan Yosef.

The album will have a second part, more rhythmic, which it will call 'Play' and which it hopes to launch in the coming months.
