The swimming pools in Bavaria are allowed to reopen from June 8th. However, the water rats in the Munich district still have to be patient.

District - The paving stones are stacked along the waist-high box hedge, which obscures the view of the swimmer pool. The way to the diving platform is open, gravel covers the ground. "We are in the middle of the renovation and preparation work," says Marco Kaufmann, operations manager at the Unterhaching swimming pool.

In a press conference, Prime Minister Markus Söder announced that the outdoor pools in Bavaria may open again from June 8th. This easing surprised many communities in the Free State, including the Munich district. The open air pools in Haar and Oberhaching still have time to open. Unterhaching decided not to open the swimming pool next to the Hachinga Halle until July 1 - the specific protective measures have not yet been determined.

Unterhaching swimming pool is about to start

Kaufmann strolls along the edge of the pool wearing a blue overalls and safety shoes. His eyes wander across the empty pool. "We drained the water in mid-March," says the operations manager. His ten employees have been hibernating the outdoor pool since the beginning of February. Clean the flow, cut the hedges and mow the lawn. "There is always something to do here," says Kaufmann.

The bathroom should have been open on May 1st. The swimming pool employees made good use of the time during the corona-related forced closure by renewing the floor in the showers and toilets. "We did the bare essentials and a little bit more," explains Marco Kaufmann, looking at the empty, precisely cut lawn. Usually, thousands of visitors flock to the green areas in May.

The peak number in the Unterhachinger outdoor swimming pool was 7,500 visitors in 2019. "Of course this is not possible this year," says the operations manager. It is not yet certain where the visitor limit is. The community is currently still in the planning stage. The pandemic plan of the German Bathing Association is intended to provide municipalities with information about what bathing operations should look like under corona conditions. "There are still many questions to be answered," says Kaufmann. "But I am confident." He appeals to the reason of the visitors. "It works in the supermarket, too," he says. There will be no distance markings on the lawn. To this end, Kaufmann and his team regularly check the meadows from July 1st.

The outdoor swimming pool in Haar and Oberhaching is still open

The outdoor pool in Haar and the natural pool in Oberhaching do not yet have an opening day. However, one thing is certain: on June 8, the date named by Markus Söder, no one is allowed into the water. According to a spokeswoman for the municipality of Haar, the responsible authorities in the town hall will be discussing the schedule early next week. The protective measures for the outdoor pool are still unclear.

The board of the Friends Further Bad eV association is still waiting - for the requirements of the Free State. "We are already in the starting blocks," says secretary Hille Rudnitzki. The lawn is cut, the shrubs cut and the pool cleaned. The board is also in discussion with a new lifeguard. Due to the corona, the volunteer members are more involved than ever. "We hope that we can open at the beginning of the summer vacation at the latest," says Rudnitzki. In addition to the protective measures, there will be another change in the Furth natural pool this year: "We are only opening this season for around 3,500 members."

A new lake is being built at Unterföhring thanks to the expansion of the A 99. But what should happen to the water is a matter of opinion.
