In Corona times, summer vacation 2020 is the order of the day in Hessen. The campsites in Rhein-Main can hardly save themselves from inquiries. But the regulations are strict.

  • In summer 2020, vacation * is the trend in Germany
  • Campsites in Hesse are in high demand
  • Strict corona rules apply

Hessen - Because the corona virus has destroyed most travel plans, the motto of many holidaymakers this summer is : Camping instead of Crete. The campsites in Rhein-Main have recently reopened and receive numerous requests every day.

Camping holidays in Hesse: this must be taken into account in Corona times

"The first campers were right at our door on the opening day at exactly ten o'clock," says Barbara Wittekind, manager of the campsite at Hof Gimbach in Kelkheim (Hesse). "It started right away. Many are happy if they can now go somewhere. ”Gerhard Schönweitz's place in Dreieich-Offenthal is also very popular for the 2020 vacation . "But we had to cancel many first - especially those who wanted to come at Pentecost," he says.

Corona rules for vacation at campsites in Hesse: Some operators are creative

He is currently only open to long-term campers because they have a rental toilet on site. The sanitary facilities are still tight, the risk of contact is too great. "There is a lot to do if you want to adhere to the requirements of the Robert Koch Institute," said the campsite boss in Hesse . But he has found solutions to enable vacations on the pitch: From now on there is a legal requirement to keep the distance from each other. And there will be traffic lights at the sanitary facilities in the future. Schönweitz: "They switch to red after a certain number of guests. Then you have to wait until approval is given." In addition, the number of wash basins and showers in the washroom is reduced - and a mask is generally required .

When will camping holidays in Hesse be possible again? The demand is great

From June 5, 2020, he wants to allow self-sufficient mobile homes for camping again. "You are not dependent on sanitary facilities," says Gerhard Schönweitz. "Later on, all other vehicles and tent guests can come back."

Because the latter usually travel to Hesse for camping holidays in larger groups , everything has to work according to the requirements. “It is important for me to start up the business in an orderly manner. Not that I have quarantine in two or three weeks and have to close it again. "

Most of the long-term campers in Hessen react with understanding. “They are just happy that they can be here and have a barbecue or sit in the sun,” says the campsite operator . Barbara Wittekind also experiences this: "Our guests are very happy to be able to get out again and adhere well to the rules." In Kelkheim, this means : disinfectant dispensers in front of and in the sanitary facilities, which can only be entered individually or as a family, distance markings and an open-air registration.

Camping is partially possible in Hesse, but swimming lakes are still partially closed

One who still has to wait for guests is Peter Duzak. He is the manager of Bavaria 's largest campsite in Kahl am Main . It may only reopen to tourists from May 30, 2020. But there are already many vacation requests from neighboring Hesse on the table. “We are almost completely booked out over the summer. We only have a few appointments in August, ”says Duzak. "We have fewer parking spaces available - to keep the distances." The camping lake belonging to the campsite remains closed. "Of course we hope that the release may also come in parallel with May 30th."

Holidays in Germany: This is a trend that could also last longer, Gerhard Schönweitz believes. “We live in a relatively safe country and health care is excellent. Corona could also have something good for tourism in Germany in the medium to long term. "
