The Kaiserin Elisabeth Museum in Possenhofen will probably no longer open this year. Nevertheless, it wants to remain present in the public - not only with the help of the new website, but also with the museum suitcases. They are primarily, but not only intended for school classes.

Possenhofen - Rosemarie Mann-Stein speaks of "our woman" when she means the around 20 women who lead through the Empress Elisabeth Museum in Possenhofen. "This has become an important part of life for many," says the museum director. They are all "sad and disappointed". Mann-Stein has agreed with Pöcking's Mayor Rainer Schnitzler not to open the Sisi Museum again this year. “We simply don't have enough space and cannot comply with the distance rules. The middle room is just ten square meters, ”explains the boss. In addition, many groups would come to the facility on Lake Starnberg by bus.

Nevertheless, the nurses of imperial history want to remain present in public. "I am pleased that I have more options with our new website," says Mann-Stein. She is planning a powerpoint presentation for the now canceled special exhibition about Duchess Sophie Charlotte, fiancee of King Ludwig II and younger sister of Sisi. "So that people can at least get an idea of what we wanted to show."

The contents of the case: books, puzzles, puzzles and more

But this year the Sisi team not only brings Empress and Co. closer to the people digitally - but also in a completely analog way with a suitcase. Roswitha Wenzl was the inventor of the Sisi-Mobil museum case. She had the idea about four years ago when developing a children's and youth program. It was originally intended for primary school teachers to prepare them for a museum visit. The so-called educational case contains books on the childhood of the later empress, CDs with zither and folk music by Duke Max in Bavaria, memory games with motifs from museum objects, puzzles, puzzles, pictures to color in or dress-up dolls to cut out.

Well, in Corona times, the suitcase could be a "living addition to home and specialist classes". The Sisi Museum now awards it regardless of the museum visit. “Despite closed schools, we already had inquiries from teachers who want to prepare for classes. We want to react as flexibly as possible to this, ”says Wenzl. With the suitcase, the children could not only be introduced to local history, but also sensually. And even imitate Sisi's handwriting. “There are templates and assignments for the students,” explains Wenzl.

Learn the handwriting of the empress

With the offer, the youth welfare officer specifically addresses the needs and interests of young people. "You can't get children to the museum if they are only allowed to walk past showcases, don't touch anything and just don't want to get dirty," she says. In the past, the children's and youth program always offered the opportunity to play prince and princess or to learn old, courtly dances.

Teachers, educators, clubs, youth hostels, school campuses and families can borrow the suitcase. There are two of them: one for schoolchildren with work materials and one for kindergarten children with fabrics and trimmings for dressing up and decorating. The rental fee for suitcases and material bags is 20 euros, the loan period is usually up to 14 days.

For Wenzl, the suitcase is a symbolic museum piece, it fits the empress. "Sisi has traveled all her life," she says. The museum team will remain at home a lot this year - if only because of its composition. The ladies are at an advanced age. Wenzl emphasizes: "95 percent belong to risk groups."
