Egling - The Pentecost step around the small Marienkapelle in Dettenhausen has been an attraction since 1992. Every year around 1,000 spectators want to see the festively decorated horses and around 100 riders. Due to the corona pandemic, the board of directors of GTEV St. Sebald Egling has now decided to cancel the event - which Secretary Katrin Hofmann very regrets, as she admits in the interview.
Ms. Hofmann, are you sad that you have to cancel the Pentecost kick?
Sure it hurts. The Pentecost step is the main event of the Trachtenverein. This income breaks us down. At least there is no other financial damage.
Wasn't there a way to do the Pentecost kick?
No. This is not possible with the necessary hygiene measures. Already when setting up the marquee it is impossible to keep a distance of 1.50 meters. In addition, the area in Dettenhausen is very extensive. So we have no control over how many people actually come. You would have to write down the contact details of everyone. That would be a mad effort. And then you don't know whether people would have come and whether the church would have approved it at all. That is why we said: It does not work.
Did you already start preparing?
No. Usually the Rossers get a personal invitation, this time we wrote to them that it would not work. The preparations are not that big, in the end it is the same every year.
Are you planning a replacement event?
No. You don't know how long the corona crisis will last.
Have you ever had to cancel the Pentecost kick?
Yes, in 2001 we had to drop him due to foot and mouth disease.
