A 23-year-old young man from East Jerusalem died on Saturday in the hexagonal pool in the Golan Heights.
Four young people from East Jerusalem came to spend the day in the Nahal Zahtan. At one point one of the young men jumped into the stream and disappeared. His friends, who noticed that he was out of the water, called the Israel Police 100 hotline and reported the case. Police forces along with volunteers from the Israel Police's Golan Rescue Unit were called to the scene and began searching for the young man.
After scans conducted by Israeli police volunteers from the Northern Submarine Unit, the mother located the young man and dragged him out of the water with no signs of life. A medical team that arrived at the scene performed CPR operations and finally had to determine his death.
MDA senior medic Shmuel Ozdova said: "We received the report of the young man who was lost contact with him while he was in the water. Due to the difficult terrain route, I left with a special 4 × 4 ambulance together with Golan rescue unit divers. They entered the water and for many minutes searched for the young man who was found unconscious at the bottom. He rescues us from the pool, unbeatable and breathless. We performed medical examinations, but he was without signs of life and we had nothing left to determine his death. "
Israeli police officers are on the scene and have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the case.
