After leaving GWM: Miesbach thinks about job for city marketing

City marketing in voluntary work: that was common in Miesbach in the past - thanks to the community advertising. Now the work should be done more professionally.

Miesbach - The corona crisis took some pressure out of the kettle. "That would have been nothing with the coolie this year," said Aline Brunner (FWG) in the city council. The second major Miesbach event, the 1000 sparkle of lights at the start of Advent, is on the brink of the pandemic. But despite the virus, one should not overlook a much more fundamental problem: the popular events in the county town are currently without organizers. "Even without Corona, we would have a murder problem," said Brunner, who is also an assessor on the board of the Miesbach community advertising (GWM).

As reported, the GWM had already informed the city in December 2019 that it could no longer handle major events in the honorary position. At the end of March, GWM chairman Florian Brunner therefore terminated the contract with the city, said Mayor Gerhard Braunmiller (CSU) at the meeting. This also eliminates the subsidy of 25,000 euros that the city has transferred to GWM each year.

But the traders have not simply taken responsibility. On the contrary: they are advised on how the cooperation with the town hall could look in the future in order to put city marketing on a new footing. For this, the GWM successfully applied for the Corona self-help program of the Ministry of Economy, Braunmiller reported. Achim Gebhardt from the commissioned consulting office CIMA presented the results of the first two workshops.

The diagnosis is clear: Due to the high workload, the business people involved in the GWM would not have enough time to develop a long-term strategy, said Gebhardt. A "strong interface" between trade and town hall was needed. Gebhardt gave examples from other cities, where this is located directly in the administration. As a contact for business-oriented events and for coordination and dialogue with private partners. "Urban development must be perceived as a package," emphasized Gebhardt.

Braunmiller announced that it would speak to the urban development committee about the implementation options in Miesbach. "We have to face this issue." The city councilors saw it the same way. But they also warned that these tasks can hardly be accomplished with the current number of staff. "That doesn't work with switching," said Verena Assum (CSU). "We have to take additional money into our hands."

Above all, Max Kalup received a lot of praise, as he acted as a link through his positions as deputy head of the cultural office and secretary on the GWM board. "I heard about 800 hours of part-time work," said Paul Fertl (SPD). Third Mayor Franz Mayer (CSU) also expressed a “big compliment” to Kalup. As a former GWM boss, he knew how much work there was in the events.

The city development committee should first discuss whether the city actually creates its own job and where it could be located (the Cultural Office is among the topics under discussion). Fertl suggested that a cooperation with the Miesbach district marketing company (SMG) should also be examined. "Then we would have no permanent personnel costs." Fertl also expressed one wish: the revival of the town or city festival. "With a new concept so that the clubs have more motivation to get involved again."
