From a new event room to a youth café to a wine bar - Taufkirchen has big plans for the old clinker buildings at the train station.
Taufkirchen - From a new event space to a youth café to a wine bar - the plans presented to the local council on Thursday for the future use of the old train station and its two outbuildings sound promising. It has long been certain that the buildings that the municipality bought from the railways in 2008 after long negotiations will be renovated and used again. The municipality receives 60 percent of the costs - as part of the Social City program. Changes and improvements are planned for the entire station area.
The gastronomy on the ground floor should remain
In June 2018, the town council commissioned the Dragomir planning office to take a closer look at the station and the outbuildings and to develop a concept for the ensemble. Numerous citizens of Taufkirchen also brought in their wishes and ideas. Currently there is a café and kiosk on the ground floor of the old train station, apartments are on the first floor and in the attic, only a part of which is still rented under the roof. One would probably keep the gastronomy on the ground floor. On the first floor, many can imagine a space for events and exhibitions. Group rooms, studios or an area where one could temporarily rent individual workplaces would also be conceivable.

Youth café in the annex
"We want a refurbishment concept that is open to all uses," explained building manager Stefan Beer, who presented the study. It definitely has to be renovated. The Wilhelminian style building was built in 1898 and is a listed building. Likewise, the two outbuildings along the platform, which were used as storage rooms and are currently empty. The youth café so often requested by the young people could be accommodated in the two houses.
Desire for wine
A wine bar is the wish of many Taufkirchner. But everything else is also conceivable in the outbuildings. But first, the buildings need craftsmen. In one of the outbuildings, the roof is ailing, the walls are damp. Something has to happen quickly. In the course of a renovation, the old loading ramp in front of the outbuildings must be restored and the dormer windows on the main building must have their original shape in accordance with the requirements of the monument protection. An architectural firm is now to be commissioned with the further planning and cost estimation.

Refurbishment should become a lighthouse project
In the town hall one hopes to be able to realize a lighthouse project for the social city. The councilors also liked the ideas. "A nice signal that something is going on," said Matteo Dolce (SPD). "We said A, bought the buildings, now we have to say B and finance a new use," said Mayor Ullrich Sander (independent). The first rough cost estimates for the main building are between 850,000 and two million euros, for the outbuildings each between 100,000 and 200,000, the other between 200,000 and 500,000 euros, of which 60 percent could be financed through grants.
As soon as an architect's plans and precise cost estimates are available, the local council must vote again on how to proceed.
