Pentecost trips to lakes and mountains in Corona pandemic: police warn travelers

The text of the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria, in the wording: "... reminds the police once again that compliance with the park regulations and the keeping of the escape routes in the excursion regions will be intensified over the coming weekend and on the following days of the beginning of Pentecost holidays . Any violations found will be punished consistently. This can range from a fine to vehicle towing or an administrative offense report. ”

Wörthsee: So full that it gets dangerous - rush for corona loosening?

Sometimes the despair takes on bizarre features: "People have rung the doorbell a few times and asked if they could park in front of my garage," says a local resident. Parking spaces are a valuable asset at Wörthsee. Between ten and eleven o'clock everything is usually tight. The result: parked escape routes, driveways or meadows - and annoyed residents. The woman with the popular garage entrance says: "If it is nice, hell is just going on here." On beautiful Sundays, she no longer goes to her terrace because "the traffic is simply unbearable".

A larger rush is expected this year on the already crowded lake . "There will certainly be more guests," says Mayor Christel Muggenthal - and at the same time shows understanding: "People want to get out." Already on the last nice days it was shown that a lot of pedestrians and cyclists were on the sometimes very narrow paths Were on the way. "There were tricky situations - also with regard to the distance."

Sometimes the Wörthsee is so crowded that it becomes dangerous . Last year, a man cut his leg on the Walchstadt side of the lake with a chainsaw. For the emergency doctor: no getting through. All streets parked . "The first aid then had to take over the water watch that came over the lake," says Muggenthal: "We had reached a point where we had to act."

Others are also concerned about the safety of their children : “On hot days, especially at weekends, you can no longer let children cycle in Seestraße. The street is too narrow, the drivers switch to the sidewalk, ”says a mother. In addition, many day trippers dragged “half their household” to the lake.

Others in the area also live from the guests . Innkeepers, pension operators, boat rental companies. And they need sales - especially after the Corona forced break. Till Weiß, tenant of the "Augustiner am Wörthsee", still looks calmly at a possible rush . Instead of 720 seats, he now has only 280. "More simply cannot go in." His observation: "So far, people have been quite reserved anyway. Those who are at risk are still reluctant to visit the inn. ”

Walchensee excursion paradise: rubbish, wildlife park and traffic jam - rush at Pentecost?

Thomas Holz is used to a lot. He is the CSU Mayor of Kochel am See, and the Walchensee also belongs to his community. His region has long been a paradise for excursions - provided you find a parking space. But now a limit has apparently been reached. "On Sunday a week ago, it was just before the disaster," says Holz. "The whole community was parked like we have never seen it before."

He anticipates similar conditions for Pentecost : “Private courtyard entrances were parked,” he says, “and there were cars that were placed directly under an escape route sign. It is alarming for us. Then human lives are in danger. It was pure luck that nothing happened, otherwise you could only have saved by helicopter. ”

People yearn for nature, especially after the end of the exit restrictions , the mountains and lakes are full in many places. On Saturday, 9 a.m., the Herzogstandbahn will also reopen with the valley station directly on Lake Walchensee. That should further increase the rush. "Everyone is welcome with us, I want to make it clear," says the mayor, "but everyone should please adhere to the rules of the traffic regulations, decency and nature conservation ." The taverns are still only open to a limited extent, so more tourists are taking than usual with snack. "But not like a bread roll in the Tupper tin like before. What we found in sausage plastic and gummy bear bags - amazing! ”Says Holz. A lot is thrown away carelessly. The building yard recently drove special shifts to collect everything.

At Pentecost, the local traffic surveillance should work overtime and the police will also patrol more and more . That won't stop the rush, but it may prevent the worst.

Samerberg: “Is it going to happen during the week?”

"The same problem everywhere," says Georg Huber, Mayor of Samerberg.

The municipality of Samerberg in the district of Rosenheim calls itself the hiking paradise. But where there is paradise, problems are not far away. Everyone who knows the Bible knows this, or the parking lots for hikers, from which day trippers leave for Hochries, Dandlbergalm or Heuberg at the weekend. "In fact, the sheet metal avalanche hits our residents very hard on the beautiful excursion weekends, " says Mayor Georg Huber. “The foothills of the Alps have the same problem everywhere. It would be best if the people of Munich came to us by train and hiking bus. There are great transfer options in Rosenheim . ”

But getting there by public transport is too complicated for many. The mayor knows that too. "There is no such thing as a parade solution," he says. And then call them. “The ideal solution would be that there would be a huge park and ride parking lot outside the community , where 1000 cars can park and a shuttle would then take people to our hiking trails. That would be the ideal solution. ”But that is, if at all, a dream of the future.

For Whitsun, Huber expects to be very busy again - but he has a tip on how to avoid a bad mood when looking for a parking space on Pentecost Sunday. "Dear people," says the town hall manager, "it just happens during the week. There are 80, 90 percent of the parking spaces free. "

Tegernsee Valley: Corona is ticked off for many - weather forecast for Pentecost

The weather forecast for Pentecost is good, and Rottach's Mayor Christian Köck knows what that means for the Tegernsee Valley: the day trippers are coming . “Everyone wants to get out now, which is understandable.” Köck understands the guests' tendency to park in meadows and leave pizza boxes in the idyll less well. Just like last time on Father's Day, when car lined up with car after car on the narrow street in the idyllic Sutten area and sometimes it was no longer possible to get through . "An increase is actually no longer possible," says Köck. After - unlike on Ascension Day - the innkeepers have now opened again, the inflow should hardly be less.

The rush for the Tegernsee valley is not new. Especially in golden autumn, when hiking, masses of day trippers have always spilled into the valley with its narrow roads between the mountains and the lake. Corona had brought peace for a moment, now the onslaught is back with renewed force. "For many, the issue of corona is obviously ticked off," says the mayor. However, the carefree behavior seems to him "too sporty and not yet appropriate".

Starnberger See: Corona crisis in Bavaria - more police, more controls

At Lake Starnberg you can expect a rush, especially from outside - this is known from Munich's bathtub, because it is the same every summer. Due to the Corona crisis, however, an even higher number of excursionists is expected. The Starnberg police have already requested reinforcements , which will strictly monitor both traffic and compliance with the infection protection regulations, especially on weekends during Pentecost holidays - on land and on water. Illegal parking, especially in escape routes, should be towed away immediately.

The rescuers from DLRG and Wasserwacht are preparing for an increased deployment. The main attraction on the Starnberger and Ammersee is the sea shipping, which wants to start with short tours on Saturday . Details are not yet known.
