Israel's plans between Trump and Biden

What Netanyahu believes is a major hurdle, even impassable, in the eyes of most, perhaps even all Democratic Party voters, is the intention to apply Israeli sovereignty over territories in Judea and Samaria. One party may find it difficult and impossible to identify one elected official. Two reasons for this objection: First, applying sovereignty thwarted the prospect of establishing a Palestinian state, and secondly, strong political opposition, in election year, to Trump's policy, adding the possibility that Joe Biden, who was President Obama's president, will win in November. Trump, who is struggling for a second term.

Months ago, they breathed a sigh of relief in Jerusalem: In the Democratic Party's internal race, Biden defeated two of Israel's strongest critics: Senator Sanders and Sen. Warren, two socialists. Sanders, in the run-up to the candidacy, did not disable US $ 3.8 billion in annual financial aid to force a political U-turn. In contrast to these two and others, Biden has already announced that he will not return the US embassy to Tel Aviv if elected president. But he is also announcing his opposition to applying sovereignty.

In relation to the left wing that is being strengthened by the Democratic Party, Biden's positions are considered "moderate". His November election, with a good chance of important Democrats' achievement in the congressional election, would require Israel to send Washington an ambassador who, unlike outgoing ambassador Ron Dramer, is not affiliated with the Republican Party. The intended ambassador, Gilad Arden, is expected to have a resurgence, no less, of Israeli relations with the Democratic Party. And as for the retiring dreamer: We are already expecting a book to be written, in which he can, as we hope, be told about his crucial role in establishing the love and understanding relationship between Trump and Netanyahu.

If the White House tenant exchange occurs, they will also oblige Ambassador to Israel David Friedman. He, like many thousands of Washington officials, will file a resignation letter in the US tradition. The ambassador identified with unreserved support for Israel's settlement policy will say his resignation will be accepted by a president-elect Biden if elected.

We are in no hurry to predict if Biden's election for president This will mark the beginning of a cooling-off period in US-Israel relations, as opposed to the political heat wave that characterized Trump-Netanyahu relations. After all, we learned the lesson: In the past, ideologues scared the Israelis that choosing Obama for a second term would make him "take revenge" in Israel for seeing him as a hostile president. This assessment turned out to be a false prophecy.

As for the "Jewish voice": it applies, and especially in the younger generation, to a degree of identification with Israel. In any case, most of the Jewish public traditionally gives its votes to the Democratic Party. Trump's very sympathetic attitude toward Israel will not cause the Jewish voice to drift toward the Republican. A large majority of these votes will continue in the tradition of supporting the democratic opponent. And, in general, environmental issues, or Trump's treatment of the Corona, are of much greater interest to the Jewish public than the hardships of the two-year government in Jerusalem.

Approaching November 3, presidential election day. If Netanyahu's decision is determined to apply sovereignty, he should hurry, as long as Trump is in office, and before Biden's chances of replacing him increase.
