(CNN Spanish) - The government of the questioned Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro announced a new capture in the framework of the search operations that it maintains against those allegedly involved in a "mercenary incursion" that it denounced in early May and that leaves at least 8 people killed and more than 60 captured to date.

Those arrested at the start of the operation include two former US citizens who are members of the US Army's special forces.

The Minister of the Interior and Justice, Nestor Reverol, reported on Friday through his social networks that the last of those captured is a 32-year-old man who was arrested in the state of La Guaira, in the central region of the country.

Reverol called the detainee a "terrorist deserter" and said that "he was part of the frustrated mercenary raid on May 3, with the intention of carrying out a coup d'état and assassinating the constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro Moros."

In the last balance offered by the Public Ministry on this case on May 21, 66 people detained up to that date were reported.

The Maduro administration has insisted on involving the Donald Trump government in this alleged "maritime incursion" known as "Operation Gideon", frustrated on May 3 on the central coast of Venezuela.

Washington denied the accusations and said that the Caracas accusations are a "disinformation campaign" by the Venezuelan government.
