The suspension of the talk that the former judge and former Minister of Justice of Brazil, Sergio Moro, was going to give at the University of Buenos Aires, continues to generate controversy. Former President Jair Bolsonaro's minister was harsh with the cancellation of the meeting: "It reminded me of the times when books were burned."

"There is a lot of misunderstanding and a misinterpretation of what the investigations against the corruption schemes and illegal practices that we promoted in the Lava Jato case really meant," said Sergio Moro interviewed on the LN + channel.

Bolsonaro's former Minister of Justice, who resigned a little over a month ago, attributed the cancellation of the talk that was to be streamed to political pressure : "What happened reminded me of the times when books were being burned."

The meeting was scheduled for Wednesday June 10, and was to be moderated by Marcelo Gebhardt, vice dean in Law. According to the poster, the conference had the name "Fight against corruption, democracy and the rule of law", since Moro was the one who condemned former Brazilian President Luis Inacio "Lula" da Silva for corruption and money laundering.

But once the cycle was announced, the criticism was noticed on social networks, mainly by militants and those close to Kirchnerism. "The excessive political polarization hinders the progress of dialogue and peace between Brazil and Argentina and that is not positive for democracy," he reflected on the cancellation of his conference at the institution in which, for example, Fidel Castro spoke in 2003.

Criticism of the decision of the UBA

Among the many voices that rejected the decision of the University of Buenos Aires to cancel the talk of Sergio Morón, also he raised its complaint , the former leader of the Frepaso, Graciela Fernandez Meijide

"It is very worrisome, and, for me, repugnant, that the authorities of the University of Buenos Aires, making ideology prevail over the exercise of free expression in Democracy, have canceled the invitation to participate in Mr. Sergio Moro in a forum virtual organized by that University, "said the former national deputy.

UBA response

Through a statement, from the University of Buenos Aires they stressed that "the Faculty of Law is the place where plurality is not declaimed, it is practiced as a daily management practice." And they added: "The gaze is not fragmented by sector interests, but rather acquires a transversal and transdisciplinary perspective", and concluded: "Ensuring freedom of expression is an indispensable requirement."

In another section of the statement, they explained: "Spaces for reflection are constantly being promoted whose programming, format and exhibitors are the decision of those who are in charge of their organization and, consequently, their modification or cancellation as well. The Faculty respects and does not interfere with those decisions" . And they stressed: "There has been no pressure of any kind for the Faculty to suspend the activity."

Moro and the relationship between Argentina and Brazil

Former Minister Moro also pointed to the meeting between Alberto Fernández and Lula as a factor that complicated bilateral relations between Brazil and Argentina. "Between both countries there are more things in common than differences. You cannot summarize everything to political-partisan issues," said the former magistrate.

In turn, Moro also criticized both Kirchnerism and the Brazilian Workers' Party, stating that they made "an assembly with the lawfare to denounce a plan to condemn leaders of left-wing groups and what existed is a gigantic scheme of corruption, which benefited private companies, such as Petrobras. " But he did not leave it there, highlighted a harsh criticism: "It is very easy, when someone has no defense, to invent that it is a political persecution."
