Abu Dhabi, the most important component of the United Arab Emirates federation, decided on Sunday May 31 to isolate itself for a week to fight against the pandemic of the new coronavirus.
From Tuesday, June 2, no one will be allowed in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, capital of the federation, without a special permit, according to an announcement by the authorities.
The authorities imposed " a ban on entering and leaving the emirate " from June 2, the Abu Dhabi media office tweeted on Sunday. He added that residents of the emirate are allowed to move freely in their own region between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.
Shopping malls, restaurants and hotel beaches are allowed to reopen on Monday at 40% capacity, the media office said. Outdoor activities such as horse riding, cricket, cycling, golf and sailing are now also allowed.
Authorities have not specified the reason for the decision, or the specific numbers of cases and deaths in Abu Dhabi. The United Arab Emirates has so far recorded more than 34,000 cases of contamination, including 264 deaths.
Earlier this week, the neighboring emirate of Dubai decided to lift restrictions on business enterprises and shorten the night curfew.
