There had been, apart from temporary acting, a precedent in the Fifth Republic: Raymond Barre, excuse little, who had cumulated from 1976 to 1978 the functions of Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy. Laurent Pietraszewski, Secretary of State for Pensions since mid-December, inherited by decree on May 20 a second portfolio: Protection of the health of employees against Covid-19. The 53-year-old former HR director of the Auchan group, who was elected deputy for the North under the LREM label in June 2017 and replaced Jean-Paul Delevoye in government just before Christmas, therefore now has two supervisory ministers: Olivier Véran, to Health, on the retirement issue; and Muriel Pénicaud, at work, for the protection of employees.

This appointment is in fact more a regularization than a promotion or a "re-registration" for services rendered. Laurent Pietraszewski indeed offered his services at the Élysée at the start of the crisis, in mid-March, to work on economic subjects
