Washington (dpa) - More than six million people worldwide have been shown to be infected with the novel corona virus since the pandemic began.
That came out on Saturday evening (local time) from data from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. According to this, almost 370,000 people worldwide have died in connection with the lung disease Covid-19. Most recently, the United States recorded the most infected (just under 1.8 million) and deaths (over 100,000) in the corona pandemic. In absolute terms, Brazil has the second most infected (498,440), Russia comes in third (396,575).
The UK reported the second highest number of deaths related to the virus (38,458), followed by Italy (33,340).
The researchers' website at Johns Hopkins University is regularly updated with incoming data and therefore shows a higher level of confirmed infections than the official figures from the World Health Organization (WHO). In some cases, however, the university's figures have recently been revised downwards.
