(CNN Spanish) - The National Civil Protection System declared a red alert this Sunday due to the heavy rains caused by tropical storm Amanda.
"The amount of rain that continues to fall in multiple municipalities in our country and the forecast that today will be worse, forces us to have to further expand our human resources," said President Nayib Bukele.

The heavy rains have already caused the overflow of some rivers such as the Acelhuate, in San Salvador, which caused flooding in the La Málaga neighborhood, according to reports from first responders from Cruz Verde Salvadoreña.
According to the president this new emergency forces them to divide resources to control the pandemic caused by the coronavirus and at the same time attend to those affected by the rains.
