Langenhahn (dpa) - The salvage of a small plane that fell into a house roof in the Westerwald turned out to be difficult.
The apartment building in the municipality of Langenhahn in Rhineland-Palatinate remained closed on Sunday. The small plane had crashed into the roof the day before. The 54-year-old pilot was seriously injured, both house residents remained intact.
On Pentecost Sunday, it was initially unclear when the small plane could be recovered with a crane. "It is not easy to find a company that has the necessary technical equipment and is available on the holiday," said a police spokesman.
Photos showed a gaping hole in the roof and a partially destroyed gable; Parts of the rubble lay scattered next to the house. Firefighters inspected the situation; several people raised their heads to watch what was going on.
The small plane had touched a power line before the impact, which led to a power failure on Saturday. About 50,000 people were affected, it said. The power supply could be restored on Saturday evening.
Experts from the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) examined the accident site on Sunday. The pilot is in the hospital, but is out of danger. "He is doing well according to the circumstances," said the police spokesman. Apart from the pilot, there was no one on board the aircraft.
