While violence has erupted in several major American cities following the death of George Floyd during a controversial arrest, Donald Trump designates officials. The American president announced Sunday that his administration was going to include the far left movement "Antifa" (antifascist) on its American list of terrorist organizations.
The United States of America will be designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization.
- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 31, 2020"The United States will register Antifa in the category of terrorist organizations," tweeted Donald Trump, who in recent days has attributed to this movement and to other "radical extremists" the excesses which have led to riots in demonstrations at the peaceful origin to protest the death of a 46 year old black man at the hands of white police.
"Organized violence is internal terrorism"
In a series of tweets, the American president also congratulates the police for having managed to control the situation on Saturday evening in Minneapolis. “The anarchists led by the Antifa, in particular, were quickly subdued. It should have been done by the mayor from the first night, and there would have been no problem, ”he wrote.
Congratulations to our National Guard for the great job they did immediately upon arriving in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last night. The ANTIFA led anarchists, among others, were shut down quickly. Should have been done by Mayor on first night and there would have been no trouble!
- Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 31, 2020He was referring to Jacob Frey, the Democratic mayor of this big city in the north of the country, from where the dispute started after the deadly arrest of George Floyd, whose trying images have gone around the world. The white policeman, Derek Chauvin, who keeps his knee on this video for long minutes on the neck of the forties, was arrested Friday and charged with "manslaughter".
Justice Minister William Barr said in a statement that the FBI was responsible for identifying the organizers of the disorder. "The violence organized and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups [...] is internal terrorism and will be treated as such," he said in a statement.
