Weather in Germany at Pentecost: Sunday will be cooler than expected

Update from May 31, 9:18 p.m .: May also marks the end of the meteorological spring - and that gives us another day today that is typical of the past months. It is sunny overall, only a few showers can be expected from Lusatia to Lower Bavaria, Wetter.com predicts.

Contrary to what was predicted yesterday, the temperatures do not rise sharply today. Only up to 16 degrees are available for southern Germany , in the north the temperatures are up to 21 degrees, and Hannover and Magdeburg occasionally even up to 23 degrees, as Wetteronline predicts. The reason for cooler temperatures are the rising winds - and in the Harz Mountains on the Brocken can also deliver stormy gusts.

Pentecost weather in Germany: No summer feel-good weather

Update from May 30th, 7:00 p.m .: The official warnings in northern Germany are over and the DWD's weather warning card is shining friendly and green again. Unfortunately, this does not necessarily mean pleasant weather in summer

For the Pentecost weekend , changeable weather is expected. Above all, some thunderstorms could spoil the holiday mood. After all - as of now - there are no further warnings for the time being.

Weather in Germany at Pentecost: Sudden DWD warning - and there is still bad news

Update from May 30, 2:25 p.m .: While the DWD's warning card was still completely relaxed green on Saturday morning, the first small weather warning has been available since Saturday afternoon. "Small" because only a few counties in northeastern Germany around Pasewalk are affected. But it should be uncomfortable for them. To 18 pm, a Official warning applies gusts . "There are gusts of wind at speeds of around 55 km / h (15m / s, 30kn, Bft 7) from the northeast," says dwd.de.

And that's not the only bad news that some weather could spoil the holiday mood at Pentecost (see below).

Pentecost Weather: Does “Spoil-Low” Spoil the Holidays? After that, cold sheep could strike

Update from May 30th, 8:21 am : Almost all of Germany starts the Pentecost weekend sunny - and that should continue. But the friendly weather is a bit deceptive: Because today and tomorrow it won't be as warm as we are used to from the last few days.

Wetter.com forecasts temperatures of only around 15 degrees for Saturday. Temperatures are particularly low in the south and southeast , while the north can even reach 20 degrees, and can even reach up to 25 degrees in the northwest . The reason for the differences is a low that comes from the east and brings cloud fields with it in many places. But they will only rain in the southeast , especially in Lower Bavaria. The North and Baltic coasts expect particularly sunny and warm weather .

The trend is expected to intensify again on Sunday: The temperatures generally decrease slightly and the clouds spread further from the east to the west. Rain can then hit parts of Bavaria and Saxony.

Weather in Germany: Is the sheep cold threatening us after Pentecost?

Update from May 29, 8:37 p.m .: Will the cold of the sheep come to Germany soon ? The weather phenomenon, which often occurs in Central Europe in mid-June, is understood to be a cold air burst accompanied by unstable and rainy weather. Will it be cold this summer too?

Wetter.com meteorologist Bernd Madlener sees "quite a chance that the sheep's cold this year could hit Germany." However, this is not certain. However, it is certain that the temperatures will rise after Pentecost. Temperatures around 25 to 30 degrees Celsius are possible in the lowlands. After the summer high, however, there should be a change in the weather. - including rain showers and thunderstorms.

Precipitation should appear particularly in the Alpine country. It should rain in the rest of Germany, but not really heavily. The meteorologist ultimately puts the probability of cold sheep at 33 percent.

Weather in Germany: top or flop - this is the weekend at Pentecost

Update from May 29, 2020, 4.20 p.m .: East or West? With the weather in Germany, that's exactly the question at the moment. Because in the east it rains occasionally, but in the west it is almost cloudless.

Hardly anything changes in this split weather situation over the weekend of Pentecost, except on Pentecost Sunday. There is another low "Isolde" in the east for changeable weather and more for rain. Nevertheless, it is much too dry in Germany. The farmers hope for rain.

The weather situation in Germany changes on Whit Monday. Over the course of the day, the clouds break up from the Alps to Central Germany, as the German Weather Service (DWD) reports. On the Rhine, the weather experts then expect up to 27 degrees, in the southeast, on the other hand, local temperatures of 19 degrees are expected.

Already from Whit Monday it gets very warm - in the first week of June it can get hot, explains meteorologist Dominik Jung from the weather service Q.met to  the weather portal wetter.net. According to his forecast, top values of up to 30 degrees are possible. The weather expert provides the prospects for the next few days with:

  • Friday: 17 to 25 degrees, often friendly and dry
  • Saturday: 16 to 24 degrees, mix of sun and clouds, mostly dry
  • Pentecost Sunday: 19 to 26 degrees, sometimes sun, sometimes clouds, some rain in the far east, but very little
  • Whit Monday: 19 to 26 degrees, sunny everywhere, hardly any clouds, summerly

Weather at Pentecost: "Spoilers low" could spoil holidays

First report from May 28, 2020 :

Munich - While the coronavirus crisis continues to occupy people in Germany and worldwide, many are finally longing for constant, summer temperatures. But what will the weather be like in the sixth month of the year? The Pentecost weekend is now in particular focus .

Weather in Germany: Outlook until Pentecost weekend

On Thursday evening, according to the forecast by the German Weather Service (DWD), it will change in the south and southeast. Clouds and sometimes even rain can play a role. However, the thunderstorm and shower activity should decrease.

However, there are not much better prospects for Friday. In the east and southeast it should continue to change, occasional rain showers should also prevail on the Ore Mountains and the Alps . The maximum values in Germany are said to be between 18 and 24 degrees.

Weather in Germany: heat blast or rainy weather at Pentecost?

According to the qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung from the Q.met weather service, a low over Eastern Europe will decide how the weather in Germany will be at Pentecost

So he told the “Bild newspaper”: “We have a lot of sun on Pentecost . It will be beautiful in the west and north and south. But there could also be a spoiler who may be involved, especially in the east. [...] The low shifts clouds around and they just extend to the east of Germany . Therefore there can be bad weather there at Pentecost. The question is: How far does it get to us? ”Because maybe, according to the weather expert, it could also spare the east completely.

Also meteorologist Juergen Schmidt of " weather office " concurred. A low above Poland / Czech Republic directs cloud fields to the east - but especially to Saxony - and to Bavaria . Local showers and thunderstorms could play a role. However, it is not at all certain how far the low will go to Germany, Dominik Jung added.

Weather in Germany: Pleasant temperatures for most of Germany

All those who had been waiting for a real blast from Hoch Steffen must be patient. At least temperatures up to 23 degrees on Saturday, 24 degrees on Sunday are expected. But the really warm summer should finally come. But the weather forecasts are fatal. Is the third extreme summer in a row waiting for us?

However, a “catastrophe scenario” scares even experts. The reason is, among other things, the corona virus.
