With the corona raging around the world, with heavy recession looming and with US streets burning, good news is naturally pushed back. But, here in our area, an arena that usually supplies blood, fire and smoke transforms, some positive things have happened recently.

A UAE plane arrived in Israel on a direct flight and landed openly at Ben Gurion Airport.

Israel is also strengthening ties with Muslim countries west of it, as expressed in telephone calls by Chad and Sudan leaders - until recently an enemy state - with Prime Minister Netanyahu, last week. Its relations with Saudi Arabia and Jordan, at the expense of the problematic factors in the region, namely Turkey and the Palestinians, and although the headlines tell otherwise.

Those who follow what is happening in our area are not surprised by these developments. Since Donald Trump entered the White House, and especially since his speech in Saudi Arabia about the responsibility of the region's countries to fight terrorism and extremism, the ties between Israel and the Arab countries have been growing.

Under the auspices of the world's only superpower, the Good Neighbor is starting to come out in the spotlight. And that trend has continued, even since the early 20th century, the White House was introduced.

The old peace industry has wrinkled its nose in the face of the Trump plan, but on the ground, certainly on a regional level, stability is maintained, ties are tightened, and signs of optimism are on the horizon. Indeed, from time to time leaders in the region pay lip service and release angry statements about the peace plan. However, as developments in the field show, it is a steam.

Those familiar with the contents of the internal Arab talks on the Palestinian cause know that Arab leaders have long been fed up with the reluctance and wastefulness of Abu Mazen and his people. The same leaders want to look after the future of their countries and their government, and expect the Palestinians to act the same way. Therefore, they welcomed the Trump program upon its introduction, and remained steadfast in their support of it to this day.

So is the people of Israel. Although some Israeli leaders think of being politically built against opposition to the Trump program, the vast majority of the people, including the right wing, support it.

The silent majority, both in Israel and its neighbors, understands that "the vision of peace and prosperity" is the only realistic route to improving the situation west of Jordan. Perhaps the full peace is still far, but there is no better way to reach it.
