Millions of TV viewers were amazed at the live recordings from the SpaceX space capsule "Dragon2". A dinosaur flew through the picture. That was behind it.

  • The Falcon 9 rocket launched towards the ISS on Saturday evening.
  • For the aerospace company SpaceX of Elon Musk the successful launch was a success.
  • However, many TV viewers were amazed at a scene in the live recordings.

Update, May 31, 7:19 p.m .:  Shortly before the astronauts enter the ISS , it can be seen again prominently: the dinosaur tremor . "Is that maybe the welcome gift?" Is puzzled on the Phoenix transmitter, where the other scenes are broadcast live.

SpaceX rocket flight to the ISS: puzzling gesture in space capsule - that was behind it

Update, May 31, 5.40 p.m .:  Not only the US astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley successfully docked with the space capsule on the ISS . The stuffed animal dinosaur Tremor , who traveled as a mascot with space ( see below ), was there at the historic SpaceX moment. During the recordings, which the broadcaster Phoenix broadcast on TV, the dino was briefly seen in flashbacks. At a later point in time, after entering the ISS , the astronauts will probably speak up themselves - possibly with Dino Tremor in their luggage. The toy mascot may have already gained a few fans on its space mission

SpaceX rocket launch: puzzling gesture in space capsule - that was behind it

Cape Canaveral - Countless TV viewers around the world * watched the breathtaking launch of the SpaceX rocket from Cape Canaveral into space on Saturday evening. They were impressive live recordings of the picture book launch of the Falcon 9 rocket . It took the rocket just a few minutes to reach space. Then there was a puzzling scene in the "Dragon 2" space capsule - seen live on TV.

One of the two astronauts held up a soft toy dinosaur, which then hovered in front of the camera. It is an old NASA space tradition - and there may also be a message to the family on Earth.

SpaceX: This is behind the dino scene in the Dragon2 space capsule

As soon as a spaceship reaches zero-G , i.e. weightlessness , the flying "blind passenger" indicates that you have left Earth. It is, so to speak, the indicator that one is outside the earth's gravitational force. At this point, the astronauts themselves are still firmly strapped to their seats and are not yet floating. It was immediately researched online which stuffed animal had made it into space this time.

Note:
I'm pretty sure that's the TY Flippables Tremor Dinosaur, 6 ”tall with blue / pink reversible sequins.

If so, it's a retired plushie that is no longer manufactured, so you can only acquire it on the resale market. pic.twitter.com/k51gJfHbP2

Third SpaceX passenger: Another soft toy dino was already on the ISS

That it was a stuffed animal dino, of course, could also have been a message down. Because astronaut Douglas G. Hurley , who let the dino fly, is married to Karen Nyberg in the second marriage . She is also an astronaut and took a self-sewn dinosaur to the ISS for her son Jack in 2013

The new spacecraft dino will also make it to the International Space Station, where Hurley is on its way with the Falcon 9 rocket. It is the third space mission for the 54-year-old American.

Elon Musk posted a similar photo from the Dragon2 space capsule

A small fabric globe was included in a Dragon test flight in March. Elon Musk * himself proudly posted photos of the plush earth in the space capsule. Meanwhile, the billionaire dreams of even bigger goals: he wants to send people to Mars *. With his Starlink project * he also caused criticism from astronomers. Strange fairy lights can be seen from Earth.
