The Steering Committee of the National Rugby League, meeting on Tuesday, decided to stop the Top 14 and Pro D2 championships for good. “Faced with the exceptional circumstances linked to Covid-19, on a proposal from the Bureau, and at the end of the consultation process carried out within the framework of the organization set up in the context of the health crisis, the Steering Committee adopted the resolution providing for the permanent cessation of the first division and second division professional championships. This resolution provides for the following provisions: the classification of the Top 14 is decided and approved at the end of the 17th day; the classification of the Pro D2 is decided and approved at the end of the 23rd day after taking into account the 3 late matches according to the equalization system provided for in the general regulations of the FFR; no award of the title of champion of France for the 2019-2020 season in the Top 14 and Pro D2; no relegation / accession between the Top 14 and the Pro D2; no relegation / accession between Pro D2 and Federal 1. ” The LNR therefore confirms its refusal to let Albi and Massy ride in Pro D2, as desired by the president of the FFR, Bernard Laporte. This resolution must still be submitted to the approval of the General Assembly of the LNR, which will meet in exceptional session on June 11, and to the Executive Committee of the FFR.

Regarding the future National Championship (Pro D3), the Management Committee “took stock of the creation by the FFR of an intermediate federal competition between PRO D2 and Federal 1, allowing clubs to prepare themselves, on a sporting level and structural, gaining access to the professional sector. The work of the steering unit in which the representatives of the LNR participate continues ”.
