Upper Isar Valley - 332 traffic accidents occurred in the Alpenwelt Karwendel in 2019 - two people lost their lives in the process. 61 suffered injuries.

At least a third less than the previous year (91). Alcohol played a crucial role in seven collisions, in which five road users were injured. Compared to 2018 (ten injuries / eleven accidents), this also means a clear decrease. As before - and definitely not only in the Upper Isar Valley - excessive speed is the decisive cause when there is a crash. This resulted in three injuries in 14 accidents (2018: two deaths and 20 injuries in 24 collisions). Particularly sad: 70 people who caused the accident escaped. The police were still able to determine 21 of them. In 2018 the ratio was 78 to 30.

Only the serious traffic accidents caused property damage of around EUR 223,000 (2018: EUR 541,000). This can also be seen from the figures that the Mittenwald police chief Thomas Holzer presented to the market town council and the following day to the other two mayors from Krün and Wallgau.

According to the latest law enforcement officials, addictive substances of all kinds can still not be completely banished from the street. As part of controls alone, the officials removed 18 car drivers from traffic (2018: 21). A driver was under the influence of drugs eleven times (2018: six). The prosecutor subsequently investigated twelve cases, and fines proceedings were initiated against 17 drivers. Five drunk trips (2018: seven) were prevented at the last moment.

What may be the reason for the decreasing number of accidents is the enormous traffic density. In the district alone, there are a total of 77 659 registered vehicles with 88 467 inhabitants (2018: 76 558) - and the trend is rising. "At some point, a collapse will happen here," Schwant Holzes Übles.
