Parked next to the 3 Series sedan from which it derives, the new 4 Series coupe seems to belong to another family. The front panel inaugurates new aesthetic codes tested on the concept of the Frankfurt Motor Show last year. This style, which is not lacking in audacity, borrows its references from pre-war models, reviving the double vertical bean. Main feature of this new face, the license plate crosses the grille.
From this angle, the Series 4 evokes the Series 8. Fabian Kirchbauer
For the rest, the latest 4 Series preserves the classic proportions of BMW coupes, namely a plunging body line, perfectly controlled overhangs and a great balance of forms. The Series 4 lengthens by 128 mm, including 41 mm at the wheelbase to reach 4.76 m, widens from 27 mm to 1.85 m and increases by 6 mm to 1 38 m. Compared to the 3 Series from which it derives, it remains 57 mm lower. Its general silhouette evokes that of the Series 8. It is distinguished by a superposition of lateral ribs, a marked shoulder and a statutory stern mimicking that of the Series 8 coupe.

The interior concept is identical to that of the 3 Series with digital instrumentation and a driver-oriented center console incorporating the infotainment screen. The choice of materials and finishes testify to the desire to position the Series 4 above the Series 3.

This coupe introduces a new version of the head-up display offering a 70% enlarged projection surface. Munich engineers have not forgotten to provide their latest coupe with a certain functionality. To increase the loading space, simply fold the backrest of the two rear seats and open the hatch and cabin separation flap.
Depending on the versions and engines, the 4 Series has different shields. BMW
Under the hood, at launch next October, the 4 Series will be available with three engines including a 4-cylinder turbo diesel 2-liter light hybrid 48 v 190 hp. Next March, the diesel range will be enriched with two six-cylinder in-line 3 liters with light 48 V hybridization, the 430d of 286 hp and the M440d of 340 hp. When the coupé was launched, the range of petrol engines revolved around two proposals: the six-liter 3-liter turbo M440i with light hybridization of 374 hp, the 4-cylinder 2-liter turbo with 184 hp of the 420i. The latter claims a consumption of 6.3 l / 100 km, or CO2 emissions of 143 g / km. All models benefit from the standard 8-speed automatic transmission. Delivered as standard on the M440i, the 4-wheel drive system is also available as an option on the 420d. It will equip the two other diesel versions launched next March. Compared to the 3 Series, the suspensions have been strengthened and the center of gravity lowered by 21 mm, in favor of driving dynamics. As an option, the 4 Series can receive the SelectDrive M system and the DirectDrive variable reduction steering. Launched next October, the Série 4 range starts at 48,000 euros (420i) and extends up to 68,400 € in M440i xDrive version.
