CUHK poll: Lin Zheng score fell to 22.2 points, a record low 44% of respondents gave 0 points

Government satisfaction, trust, and official ratings dropped significantly across the board

CUHK interviewed 732 citizens over the age of 18 from May 20 to 28, and 13% of them expressed satisfaction with the performance of the SAR Government, which was 4.7 percentage points lower than in April. Dissatisfaction was 67.9%, up 7.5 percentage points from April. The number of people who answered "half and a half" decreased by 2.6 percentage points to 18.9%.

As for Lin Zheng's performance, the overall score was 22.2 points, which fell to a record low in December 2019, a sharp drop of 4.6 points from April. Among them, 44% rated 0 points, and 30.7% rated 1 to 49 points, that is, 74.7% of the total were rated as unqualified.

It is worth noting that respondents who favor non-organizational systems scored only 5.1 points, but even those who preferred institutionalization scored only 60 points. Respondents who indicated that they did not have a political tendency were only given a score of 26.1.

As for the performance of the three chiefs, Chief Secretary for Administration Zhang Jianzong scored 23.6 points, down 6.4 points from April. Financial Secretary Chen Maobo scored 27.9 points, down 4.1 points. The Secretary for Justice Zheng Ruohua scored 16.6 points, down 3 points.

15.6% of the respondents expressed confidence in the Hong Kong SAR government, which was 3.7 percentage points lower than in April. People who expressed distrust accounted for 60.5%, up 7.2 percentage points from April. The number of people who answered "half and a half" was 22.5%, down 3.5 percentage points from April.

As for the Beijing government, 13.7% of the respondents expressed confidence in the Beijing central government, which dropped by 3 percentage points month-on-month. 68.2% of the respondents expressed distrust and rose 8.4 percentage points month-to-month. 15.8% of the respondents answered "half and a half", which decreased by 4.4 percentage points month-on-month.

CUHK said that the public's satisfaction with the government's performance, the chief executive, the performance scores of the three directors, and even the trust in the SAR government and the central government have all dropped significantly from April. Comparing the year-on-year comparisons in May last year, the data reflects a significant decline.
