Protesters throughout the country demand justice, sometimes joined by police, sometimes overwhelmed by looters, seven days after

On the 7th day… calm did not return. Despite Donald Trump's very firm threat to appeal to the military on Monday evening for the seventh consecutive night, anger was again expressed throughout the United States.

A week after the death of George Floyd when he was arrested by police, thousands of protesters continued to speak out against police violence against the African-American minority on Monday. In New York and California, peaceful processions were dispersed by the violence of some, who looted and vandalized businesses. In Saint-Louis, four police officers were shot and wounded.

After his speech, Trump walked from the White House to the steps of the nearby Episcopal Church of St. John, which was slightly damaged during the day's protests. The track had been cleared by the National Guard military police, the Secret Service, the Department of Homeland Security police, and the District of Columbia police. The American president seized a bible and posed for photos with his daughter Ivanka and the American attorney general William Barr. The bishop president of the diocese of the Episcopal Church in Washington, Mgr Michael Curry, did not appreciate. "In doing so, he used a religious building and the Holy Bible for partisan political purposes," he said on Twitter.

This evening, the President of the United States stood in front of St. John's Episcopal Church, lifted up a bible, and had pictures of himself taken. In so doing, he used a church building and the Holy Bible for partisan political purposes.

A few hours before this staging, thousands of people had marched through the streets of Brooklyn , shouting "justice now!" Looting took place before the curfew decreed by Mayor Bill de Blasio came into effect at 11 p.m. The branded store windows on 5th Avenue were smashed and the contents of the stores swept away.

Advanced curfew in New York

Groups of young people, often a dozen, roamed from one street to the next, while entire streets in central Manhattan were blocked by the police. Stores in the south of the island have suffered the same fate. Police said they arrested looters "in the hundreds". Deeming the situation unacceptable, the mayor announced that the curfew would begin this Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. "The city is completely under control, and for the most part calm and peaceful", he nevertheless assured on the chain NY1.

Just after 11 p.m., a hundred people were still calm in front of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the scene of major protests in recent days. They put their knees on the ground, a symbolic tribute to the victims of police violence. Police observed them from a distance, without arresting them despite this formal violation of the curfew.

Police hit by car

On Monday, some 40 major cities had imposed curfews to try to stem the outbreak of violence, which left Minnesota to denounce the police's racial violence.

600 km west, in the city of Buffalo , two police officers were struck by a car during the demonstration. The driver was taken into custody, but it is unknown at this time whether his gesture was intentional.

In Hollywood, California , three separate demonstrations took place in peace, including a procession which peacefully crossed the very touristy Hollywood Boulevard. Other protesters gathered in downtown Los Angeles and in Anaheim. The demonstrators also briefly closed a highway by walking on an access ramp. Some drivers honked in solidarity and others stopped their cars to join the walkers.

At around 4 p.m., however, as students continued their protest, looters attacked Van Nuys' businesses in Hollywood. They ransacked a pharmacy, a shoe store, a watch repair counter. A fire broke out in a shopping center, without knowing for the moment if it was put on purpose or as a result of vandalism. The police responded by pulling bean bags from the crowd.

The students dispersed before 5 p.m. curfew time.

Family events in Miami

Los Angeles Police Chief Michael Moore accused the looters Monday of "capitalizing" on the death of George Floyd. He said that the day before, nearly 700 people had been arrested during the demonstrations and that 10% were linked to burglaries or looting. "His memory deserves reform. His memory deserves a better Los Angeles, better United States and a better world ”, he wished. He also accused the looters of having, along with the four police officers, Floyd's blood on his hands, before apologizing for this statement.

In Miami, Florida , protesters, including families with children, gathered in the city center in the afternoon before crossing through Overtown, a historically black and low-income neighborhood. "Black lives matter," chanted the crowd, magnifying visibly. The demonstrators then went to the local prosecutor's office, criticized for handling police brutality complaints in the county.

During the weekend, police cars were set on fire and the police had to disperse the crowd with rubber bullets, but on Monday nothing like it. A handful of protesters, who remained in the streets at around 8:30 p.m., complied with the order to disperse before the 9 p.m. curfew. Around 9:30 p.m. Miami-Dade police said on Twitter that they had not made any arrests.
