Braunau am Inn - Adolf Hitler's birthplace in the Austrian city of Braunau am Inn is to become a police station . As the responsible department head of the Ministry of the Interior, Hermann Feiner, told journalists in Vienna on Tuesday, the renovation is intended to "neutralize the entire place". Interior Minister Karl Nehammer added that the renovation would open a "new chapter" in the history of this historically contaminated place. The plans were first announced in November.

The later German Chancellor and dictator Hitler was born on April 20, 1899 in the yellow corner house in the city on the German border. In 2016, the building fell to the Ministry of the Interior in the course of expropriation. The heir was awarded compensation of 810,000 euros in 2019. After the renovation, the building will have two pointed gables, but most of the original structures should be preserved. The plaque outside the building is to be removed and exhibited in a museum .
