As of September there will no longer be a full day class with lunch supervision at the Kerschenstein primary school.

Germering - the reason is the low demand. As an alternative, an open all-day model is offered instead.

A so-called bound full-time class means that the children in the class network are in school at least four days a week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The afternoon hours after the midday care are scheduled as regular lessons, which must be conceptually related to the morning hours.

The demand has dropped

This type of all-day school is obviously no longer so popular with parents - at least in the sprinkle of the Kerschenstein school. There, the numbers at school enrollment have remained so low that they are no longer offered. Instead, headmistress Claudia Frisch plans to introduce a so-called open all-day class for grades one to four. The Social Committee has now unanimously approved this.

In the case of an open all-day class, regular classes are not offered in the afternoon. Instead, after lunch, there is homework support with promotional offers and an extensive range of leisure activities. School-based elective lessons and study groups can also be offered.

More flexibility for parents

The biggest difference to the bound form is that the children do not have to be registered in four days. Parents can also register their children for two or three days - however, this then applies to the entire school year. Lessons also go until 4 p.m.

The Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO), which has been offering noon care at primary school and the open all-day branch at Kerschensteiner Mittelschule for years, is now also responsible for the primary school model.

Model starts in September

From September there will be three groups at the school with a total of 36 children who only take care of the lunch. Two groups with 28 children are open to the school until 4 p.m.

The city incurs costs of around 29,000 euros. However, there are no real additional costs because the city has already subsidized the midday care for workers' welfare.
