On the long Pentecost weekend in Corona times, people behaved largely reasonably and did not storm the destinations.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen - The expected chaos has not materialized: The leisure magnets between Königsdorf and Münsing were largely relaxed on Pentecost weekend. "There was very little going on," police chief Christian Fricke from Wolfratshausen police inspector summarized when asked by our newspaper.

Pentecost Sunday, 11.30 a.m., Bibisee: A couple strolls along the bank with a pram. Two women, surrounded by three small children, pull a fully loaded handcart from the parking lot to the lawn. There, visitors can be counted on four hands.

Orderly conditions: Neither on Saturday nor on Sunday there were crowds in Beuerberg Abbey.

A similar picture three hours later at Lake Starnberg. There are only a few cars in the parking bays at the campsite in Ambach. The SUP station is orphaned. A few young boys play soccer on the almost deserted lawn of the recreation area on the Schwaiblbach. On the way, mountain bikers make their way through walkers with and without walking sticks. The charcoal from lunch is still glowing in a few fireplaces.

"Apparently the predictions scared off a lot of people," comments Ingo Roeske, Chairman of the Wasserwacht Wolfratshausen, about the low number of visitors. With cool wind and 16 degrees water temperature, bathing would not be a pleasure anyway. Stand-up paddlers occasionally glide over the water near the shore. “There are already a lot of vacationers, the campsite is full. But in a weather like today, a lot of people in Munich don't get out, ”says Roeske. "We are actually glad that not so much is going on."

That could change next week. "It is supposed to be hot, so we expect a rush to come on Tuesday, Wednesday," said the water guard chairman. This would pose a problem for the volunteers who work during the week: "Let's see how we can solve something," says Roeske.

At the Beuerberg Abbey, white chalk marks on the floor between the archway and the entrance mark the distances that visitors have to keep in case a queue of people should form. But there is no crush on Saturday or Sunday. "It's unusual," admits Dr. Christoph Kurzeder. The director of the Diocesan Museum can only get used to the "cold start" with which the exhibition "Tugendreich" has now started, as reported. Due to the corona pandemic, the ceremony and guided tours to the opening had to be canceled. "There is a somewhat melancholy mood in the whole team," Kurzeder admits. Visitors move freely in the cloisters and exhibition rooms, enjoy coffee and cake on the terrace at the monastery garden. Meanwhile, some children are making mouth-nose masks out of socks in the "monastery studio". "The people are very disciplined," the curator notes and adds with a slight sigh: "I'm completely satisfied." On the first two days of the exhibition, the monastery had around 250 visitors each.

Also in the fairytale forest in Wolfratshausen, the queue of visitors at the ticket booth is limited. "There was no crowding, everything was very relaxed," says Franziska Diessl, visibly pleased with the children's laughter and shouting that echoes from the park to the entrance area. Many visitors are still cautious. "People are careful. Everyone has a great understanding of the situation, ”Diessl reports. All in all, it was "a very hesitant start", she summarizes the number of visitors on the first two days. "We were far below any limit." Even on Whit Monday, she didn't expect to have to close the park in the meantime due to overcrowding - even though the crowds were comparatively large in the morning.

The police patrols, which showed increased presence at the weekend and "regularly monitored several focal points", also experienced a relatively quiet time. "There was comparatively little excursion traffic, and everything regarding Corona was also very good," explains Alexander Huber, press spokesman for the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria South. He suspects what, according to the sometimes chaotic conditions, especially at the lakes in the south a week or two earlier, was the decisive factor for the reluctance: "The weather was not that brutal."

The situation is different on Monday: blue skies and summer temperatures attract many day-trippers to Lake Starnberg. Sun-seekers and water lovers enjoyed the weather - by far on the lawn and far from the feared chaos.
