Joseph Sinimalé, various right mayor of Saint-Paul (commune of the West), was placed in police custody Tuesday in a case of illegal taking of interest, told AFP a judicial source.

The alleged facts date back to the end of 2014, beginning of 2015. Elected mayor for a few months, Joseph Sinimalé 77 years old, is said to have hired his daughter's companion in his cabinet for a large fee. Sandra Sinimalé, elected to her father's list, was responsible for the management of municipal staff when the hiring was made.
The father and daughter were taken into police custody during the day. Summoned in the morning, Sandra Sinimalé's companion was released in the early afternoon. Candidate for his own municipal succession, Joseph Sinimalé was put on unfavorable waivers on March 15 against Huguette Bello News, various left MP for Saint-Paul, after the first round.

For the second round, he made an alliance with another diverse right candidate arriving in third position. The new version of his list was deposited at the prefecture before Joseph Sinimalé went to the gendarmes. It is not the first time that Joseph Sinimalé has had problems with the law. In 1998, when he is already mayor of Saint-Paul, he was sentenced on appeal to three years in prison, 100,000 francs (around 14,500 euros) fine and five years of ineligibility for acts of embezzlement funds, favoritism and corruption of voters.
