Munich - Shortly after the BR program “Jetzt red i” began , the first statement made by the Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder came to light . He replied to the audience question when the mask requirement would finally fall in view of the falling number of infected people

Söder only answered indirectly - but his message was unmistakable: Without vaccine or medication there is only one effective measure against the virus: keep your distance. "Distance, hygiene and masks," Söder listed. Simply relying on voluntary work does not work. "We tried that at the beginning," the Prime Minister reminds us of the beginning of the first Corona wave in March. One has to commit the "unreasonable" to protect the sensible. In other words: until further notice and without vaccine or medication (possibly in the very long term), the mask requirement in the Free State remains.

BR moderator Tilmann Schöberl jumped to the side of the CSU politician: "One thing I can attest to: his mask is always there". Söder has the blue and white protective mask in his pocket in the studio. "He is leading by example!"

Corona loosening in Bavaria: Söder in BR broadcast about large wedding celebrations, funerals and birthday parties

But the viewers followed up, many wanted more relaxation: When the big weddings and birthdays could finally take place , many would ask on the Internet, said moderator Franziska Eder . But Söder was cautious and waited on this issue too. The latest outbreaks in the community in Frankfurt and in the restaurant in Lower Saxony have shown  "how incredibly fast it is, how lightning fast, how insidious this corona virus is" . Now it is particularly difficult to keep your distance, especially at private celebrations.

But Söder still gave an outlook: "If the numbers are stable after Pentecost and we don't have any problems, especially when opening the borders, we will also think about topics such as weddings, funerals and birthday parties."

Immediately afterwards, the Prime Minister again restricted himself: They still knew too little about the virus, about possible secondary diseases and organ damage, even in children. Therefore, for him: "As long as I'm not 100 percent sure," prudence has priority.

Söder on BR program on the subject of corona vaccine: "Do not believe in every promise made by the pharmaceutical giant"

Söder admitted to the audience that he would sometimes be skeptical whether there would be a vaccine in a timely manner or at all. He "doesn't believe in every promise made by the pharmaceutical giants" , but he does hope so.

In any case, he was vaccinated against all sorts of things and has done well so far. Nevertheless, there would be no obligation in the event of the discovery of a corona vaccine , but politicians would make a recommendation.

Corona crisis and the EU: Söder with serious allegations against von der Leyen

Söder also dealt politically in the BR broadcast. He is annoyed by the EU Commission under President Ursula von der Leyen . He even expressed the suspicion that the EU Commission was deliberately trying to "press German aid measures" so that the country would not come out of the crisis too strongly compared to other European countries. As an example, he mentioned the requirements for rescue measures at Lufthansa, which should give up 50 percent of the slots at Munich Airport

"Now red i" in BR: Climate activist confronts Söder directly: "I am disappointed and extremely angry"

At the end of the program, the  "Fridays for Future" activist Franziska Sänftl from Dingolfing was shown. She is "disappointed and extremely angry" when she hears that Lufthansa is being supported with billions of tax dollars without climate restrictions or that a car purchase bonus from Söder is being brought into play.

Söder tried to cushion the criticism of the young activist and promised about such a new car bonus : "If you support something, it will only be what has lower pollutant emissions." It had to be a clean and better car. However, the primary goal is to promote electromobility - and he even mentioned the promotion of bicycles as an alternative in a nebulous subordinate clause. But the CSU politician also warned that the important automotive industry in Bavaria "should not be gambled away".

Corona in Bavaria: Because of the pandemic, police student training was shortened, the vice president of the Bavarian riot police now warns of training deficits.

A host in Augsburg did not want to see that he should close at 8 p.m. because of Corona. A court found him right. Does the decision affect all restaurants?

What about the theory that summer conditions slow down the spread of Covid-19? Original conjectures are considered outdated - there is supposedly a more decisive factor.
