For 40 years, the Liebwein family has largely not mowed or fertilized their garden. Nature thanks them.
Hedges - For 40 years, Irmgard and Alois Liebwein have not fertilized their lawn or treated it in any other way. Only the areas that the family uses are regularly mowed. The rest of the 400 square meter area in Hecken (municipality of Bockhorn) is left to nature.
It all started "after we built our house on the meadow in 1975," says Alois Liebwein. After the first spring bloomers such as cowslips, soapwort and violets began to spread, “we limited mowing to the area we used. To our delight, nature brought back the rest of it within a few years with ever greater diversity. We are always surprised by this variety of flowers and insects, which vary from year to year. "
There is also positive feedback from the neighbors, says Liebwein. The neighbors now also let nature play their part in their gardens, if possible. Only the mother of the proud garden owner could not make friends with the flower meadow. She would have preferred a trimmed lawn.
