China condemned Britain's interference in its internal affairs, stressing that there is no jurisdiction in London over Hong Kong.
"Britain no longer has any judicial authority or supervision over Hong Kong," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Li Jian said in a press briefing, noting that "the danger to Hong Kong's stability and prosperity comes from foreign powers."
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had said earlier that Britain "will not abandon Hong Kong residents" after Beijing announced Chinese national security legislation in this special administrative region.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman confirmed yesterday that his country refused to allow any foreign interference in Hong Kong affairs as it is a purely domestic affair of its own.
