Corona crisis: Difficult start to the bathing season on Lake Tegernsee

Swimming pleasure at a distance - that's not easy to implement. Because there are still no binding requirements, the two hot baths in Rottach-Egern and Kreuth are only targeting the opening for June 15.

Tegernsee Valley - On the record day, 3100 visitors romped in the Rottacher Warmbad. "That was a year or two ago," reports operations manager Klaus Bickel. This year there may be 300 or 400 visitors. The municipality does not yet know the exact number. This is precisely why Mayor Christian Köck cannot yet definitely say when the warm bath will open. "We need a binding handout from the state government on the hygiene rules," explains Köck.

According to Prime Minister Markus Söder, outdoor pools are open on Monday, June 8th. "We would like that too," says Köck. However, he had two different hygiene concepts from associations, but just yet no specific requirements from the Free State. Therefore, an opening is not planned until Monday, June 15th. There is a lot to regulate. How many visitors are allowed on the lawn, how many in the pool at the same time? How is the situation in the changing room to be regulated, as at the entrance and at the kiosk? Otherwise everything would be ready for the start in Rottach. Bickel and his team have been making the system fit for a long time.

Warmbad Kreuth also opens on June 15th

The same applies to the warm bath in Kreuth. It should also open on June 15, Mayor Josef Bierschneider explains. A maximum of 340 swimmers are allowed into the bathroom at the same time, not more than 50 in the pool. Keeping an eye on this means considerable effort. "But there must always be supervisory staff at the pool anyway," says Bierschneider. What is certain is that the reduction in the number of visitors makes the operation of the baths even less profitable than it already is. Still, it was never thought not to open it. "Citizens already expect that there is such an offer."

No fencing and parcelling on the beach

In the cold Tegernsee - currently the water temperature is 15 degrees - currently only very iron people are drawn. But that will change, which is why the valley mayors recently raised the question of how to deal with the situation on the bathing beaches as part of a service meeting with Christian Kausch, head of tourism. "There they decided against fencing or parcelling," reports Kausch. After all, it is natural bathing spots. Instead, signs will be put up at the bathing spots to remind people of the distance requirement and the hygiene rules. At Tegernseer Tal Tourismus GmbH (TTT) Christine Miller created a concept for all five valley locations. The uniform signs are to be placed in three weeks by the start of the northern German summer vacation. The implementation of the concept is the responsibility of the respective municipality.

Signage at swimming areas

Popular bathing spots such as the Point should ultimately be treated like any other open space, emphasizes Johannes Hagn, Mayor of Tegernsee. There is a public path there that cannot be easily blocked. In his view, signage should suffice. Like his colleagues, Hagn relies on the personal responsibility of the visitors. According to his observations, even on the very busy Whit Monday, people would have largely observed the distance requirement.

Opening of Tegernsee beach is in the stars

It is still completely unclear when the Tegernsee lido opens. It is operated by Monte Mare together with the lake sauna. The latter is closed due to the corona crisis. So far, the Free State has not announced a date for the reopening. "We are the last link in the chain," says operations manager Daniela Hidalgo. Usually open the lido at 18 degrees water temperature. "But bad weather is forecast for the next two weeks," says Hidalgo. In this respect, an opening is not in sight anyway. In addition, it is questionable whether the operation of the lido without a sauna is economically viable. "We can usually combine that well." But the 40 employees are currently on short-time work. Only a core team is on site. Construction work is to be monitored: the facility is getting a new kitchen, the lido a wooden deck. The city had commissioned the investments before Corona.
