The farmers of Al-Hasakeh Governorate began harvesting the areas cultivated with medicinal and aromatic crops in various parts of the governorate under promising production indicators that will compensate for part of the losses they suffered in the last season due to the weather conditions that affected the crops and reduced production.
The Director of Agriculture, Engineer Rajab Salameh, stated in a statement to the SANA Economic Bulletin that the total area planted with medicinal and aromatic crops in Al-Hasaka governorate for the current season is approximately 24 thousand hectares, which includes cumin, coriander and black seed crops and are distributed in various areas of the province, especially the northern countryside.
Salama pointed out that the farmers started harvesting the cumin crop, as the production per hectare ranged between 500 and 700 kilograms, which is good production, especially that the majority of the cultivated area is rainfed, as the process of harvesting the areas planted with coriander and black seed was launched, indicating that there are good marketing and price indicators within the local markets, which will compensate Peasants from the losses they suffered in the last season, which resulted from the bad weather conditions that led to the damage of large areas of crops.
A number of the governorate’s farmers stressed that the production of medicinal and aromatic crops is good in the northern and western regions of the governorate and the average production for the southern and eastern regions due to the different rain rates that fell and the prevailing weather conditions, indicating to start marketing their production of cumin crop in the local markets and through merchants where one kilogram is sold at a price The average amount of 4 thousand liras according to the quality of the crop, while the marketing of the coriander and black seed crops did not begin, since the harvesting operations started recently.
