The Peißenberg municipal works continuously invest in their infrastructure. A major project worth millions will soon be on the agenda: the construction of a modern drinking water storage facility.

Peißenberg - “The quality is excellent. We are far below the limit values. It doesn't need any treatment, nothing at all, ”answers Georg Haser, the water master of the municipal works, proudly when asked about the quality of the Peißenberg drinking water. Of course, good water quality also requires good technical infrastructure - and in this area, the municipal works will soon invest almost two million euros in a new water reservoir.

The Peißenberg water supply runs partly through the Paterzeller Raffelbach sources. From there around 280,000 cubic meters flow towards the market town every year. The spring water from Paterzell runs directly into the 137 km long local pipeline system. But there is a second and third mainstay: A further 430,000 cubic meters per year are fed into the supply system from the wells at the Böbinger Ammerbrücke and the "Burg" via the elevated tank south of the Schweiber-Hof. The two chambers each have a volume of 1000 m³. Around 1200 m³ flow from the container into the pipeline network every day.

Peißenberg: 280,000 cubic meters a year from Paterzell

The container is fully functional and visually in good condition, but the storage system built in 1970 is getting old. The problem: the elevated tank no longer meets modern technology and hygiene standards. The two storage chambers, for example, are open and not hermetically sealed. "After 50 years, the end of the life of such a tall container has simply been reached," says Haser.

Various reports on the old container have been commissioned from the municipal works. Everyone came to the same conclusion: action is needed. It quickly emerged from the conceptual planning that a completely new elevated tank would be built. The renovation of the existing building structure would probably be a third cheaper, "but then we did not remedy the hidden defects," explains municipal plant manager Ingrid Haberl: "Technologically, so much has happened, a new building is much more sustainable."

Peißenberg: New elevated tank construction is more sustainable

A rough plan for the new container is already available. It is to be erected in a westerly direction right next to the previous location. "This is important because of the height difference. It's about changing the hydraulics as little as possible, ”explains Haser. The new building should blend gently into the landscape. It is planned to install two particularly durable, self-contained stainless steel containers equipped with a pollen filter in a wooden building. Their capacity is adjusted to the expected population growth and, including the fire water, is around 1100 cubic meters per chamber.

Peißenberg: Groundbreaking this year if possible

If possible, the groundbreaking should take place this year. After the board of directors of the municipal works had already given its place for the project in 2019 and the property purchase is already in the dry cloths, the input planning will soon begin. Haser anticipates a construction time of around one year, so the new elevated tank could go into operation in 2021. And what will become of the old container? It will not be demolished, but will definitely be taken out of service. It would not be economical to maintain the system as a reserve depot. "We would have to renovate the container anyway. In addition, at some point we would no longer receive approval, ”explains Plant Manager Haberl.

This is also interesting:

"Gasoline Festival" canceled due to Corona - What the neighboring residents of the Peißenberg underground gallery with a lot of processes could not do has now been achieved by a virus: The classic car meeting of the "Gasoline Gang" has been canceled. Because of the corona pandemic, it was postponed to the coming year.

Fireworks depot in the old water reserve - for 50 years the old water reserve held a sleeping beauty above the Michelsweg. Now the 100-year-old concrete building is to be given a new use: pyrotechnician Moritz Hummig would like to use the discarded elevated tank as a storage place for fireworks in the future.

Borrow reading material with a mouthguard - The Peißenberg library on Schongauer Straße has reopened. If you want to borrow something there, however - due to the corona virus - you have to pay attention to a few things.
