CSU boss Markus Söder now surprised with the announcement to plan his vacation this year outside Bavaria - namely in the north on the coast. Is he already on the road as a candidate for chancellor of the Union?

  • The fact that CSU boss Markus Söder is planning his vacation this year outside of Bavaria suggests a political approach behind the travel plans .
  • It is striking that Söder has recently reacted differently to the topic of candidacy for chancellor .
  • Söder recently said that he could well imagine going north to the coast this year .
  • There are many more exciting stories from the world of politics in our app.

Munich / Berlin - It's a harmless question, but with Markus Söder little remains harmless. Where does he want to go on summer vacation this year ? Safe in Germany, the CSU chairman replied in “Welt am Sonntag”, “I can well imagine going north to the coast sometimes ”. Even more: Söder raves about mudflat hikes , tells of invitations from the north and northeast. Nanu: The prime minister , who previously campaigned to the pain threshold for a Bavarian vacation , is now thoughtful nationwide.

Markus Söder's vacation plans: Political approach also for private matters

Söder is a type of politician who almost never slips the thoughtless. There is always a political approach to it, even when it comes to private matters. Without dramatizing the vacation plans : It shows that the CSU boss has recently dealt with nationwide questions differently. It is even more striking that he is reacting to the topic of Chancellor's candidacy - also less white-blue.

So far, his standard answer was: "My place is in Bavaria." He often added that a CSU politician receives little support in the north and east . In the meantime, Söder prefers to talk about responsibility *, about an international horizon in state and federal politics . In the latest interview, Söder says that the election of the new CDU leader must be awaited in December. "The question of who will run as candidate for chancellor will probably not be decided until January." And: "Who knows what will happen until then."

Söder is planning a vacation in the north: Are the Franconians moving to Berlin?

The new choice of words has no enthusiasm. But it is no longer a categorical no . "Something has changed there," says the top CSU . Söder knows that there will be a time window in 2021, not as hoped for 2025. The Francs are still not drawn to Berlin , even if it has become a fixture in federal politics .

The schedule is exciting. The K-question of the Union to clarify in January, also means the CSU tolerate on the CDU party in December no link between the there to be elected new party leader and chancellor candidacy . January is also the month that the CSU dominates more with its exams in Upper Bavaria than any other party.

Söder as candidate for chancellor: Starting point is new

The starting point is new. The survey high in the Corona crisis even makes the Union dream of black and yellow with 37 to 40 percent , the primal fear of ending in 2021 as Vice Chancellor Habeck is just far away. So there is something to get. The Union's flight of heights dampens concern in Munich, a walled election campaign by the CDU - such as before the European election for Manfred Weber - could slow down a candidate for the CSU chancellor .

The Bavarian way in the # Corona crisis is exactly right. This is the opinion of more than two thirds of the #Bayern. We say thank you for prudent action. We can only contain Corona if everyone adheres to the rules. #bayerntrend pic.twitter.com/ZMttZzwZo5

Söder leads the way in personalized surveys . In the ARD Germany trend three weeks ago, 53 percent said that Söder would be a good candidate. Only 33 percent said about Friedrich Merz , who was submerged in the crisis . NRW Prime Minister Armin Laschet , in the corona policy with Söder, received only 27 percent, Norbert Röttgen only 21. All three are now considered battered in the Union.

That is why other models are already being traded internally: that Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer simply remains CDU chief for the time being , or that Minister Jens Spahn jumps from tandem with Laschet and runs himself as party chairman - each with Söder as candidate for chancellor.

When asked if he would think again about his role in the federal government, Söder innocently says: "I was only thinking in general."
